    Lipo Capacities

OK, I am use to running NiMh in cars and now boats. I have never used anything less than 3500 Mah capacity, and I am wondering what capacities people are using in LiPo?

For reference, I am thinking mostly stock setups or minimal mods, 2S and 3S only, nothing larger.

I voted 4000-4999... but that is a bit subjective...
if you wanna race heats you'll need to parallel packs and have up to 10k mAh.
If you are just goofin' 'round then there is no need for all that, unless you want more
    run time...

I am not racing, just wanting to run fast with decent run times. My setup currently is a Blackjack and it is wired in series.

The cost difference in 3300 vs 4500 or higher is significant (staying with 25C or higher packs). I am having a hard time deciding on the right packs to get without going overkill...

Get the highest capacity and "C" rating you can afford.

LiPos sometimes suffer from "Optomistic Advertising",,,,,that is 25C and 5000mAh ratings are not always as advertised, better to air on the side of caution.

get at least 5000 mAh with the highest C rating you can afford... I have a couple of 5000mAh 35C Elite cells and I noticed a good difference in punch and less heat then my other packs (I own 30C, 25C cells). I am not trying to sell Elite cells (although they are a good affordable pack) I am just trying to make a comparison.

My only 3S lipo is for the Renegade rigger. Low mAh because of size constraints.

Just a question, since you are contemplating moving into Lipos, have you prepared for an appropriate charger AND a balancer?

I don't mean to insult, but when making an investment into Lipos, its important you balance the packs so that you get as much life out of them as possible.

Sorry if this is rudimentary and you already have plans, I just didn't want someone to be engrossed in choosing a Lipo, without taking care of the other items required.

Yes, I have an Ultra Vision peak charger that can charge Lipo and NiMh. I know about the balancer and have narrowed that down to the PQ balancer.

I am definitely looking at the PQ packs from RClipos.com and I am currently looking at cheapbatterypacks.com. I think its down to Elite 4800's or the PQ 3300 or 5000.

Good info and thanks to everyone that is sharing their input!

That's great! It looks like you have your ducks in a row...before you hit them with the Blackjack, LOL!

Apache Dude... these two companies are partners, Rclipos (Pat) will carry anything that Cheapbatteries (Michael) has, as far as Elite cells go... Pat has free shipping and like boat guys...
                        hint hint.
Don't forget, get as high C as possible... if I had to buy one of your choices, I'd stay with the Elite cells... I have 3 packs of the 4800's (25C) and 2 of the 5000 (30C) and they are rock solid.

OK, I can now vote on my own poll! I ordered some Elite 2s, 4800 packs. Looked like a good bang for the buck.

Thanks UB for the vote of confidence with the Elites.

                          Cheers,
