How do you fit the 5mm shaft into the ep1 isnt it set up for 1/8 shaft?

Not sure what you mean. I havent fit a 5mm shaft, nor will i be unless there is a good reason.
The grimracer prop im going to use is for a 1/8th shaft. I have read on the net about placing a 5mm shaft into the leg. Didint seem too much of a job.
Is this just so that you can run a larger variety of props?

As long as you are not pulling a lot of amps you should be fine runing it from the motor to the esc.
If you look at the picture it looks like all you will have to do is change the coupler out to a 5mm.
Ice that boat looks awesome hey if you want you can call me Jay i know Ocean Racer is a long name to type out.
          Keep up the work.

Yep, I machined out the shaft to 5mm on my lathe....
My prop hasn't been wet in a while.

              Cool, thanks Jay.
Well i got my EP1 today!!
I didnt run my engine in (mate brushs to comm at low volts with brasso) (gives motor a lot more power and rpm), i couldnt wait to get it installed and out on the water. And i knew the standard motor would B 2 slow run in or not anyways.
Quick test with the kit prop in the pool, then out to open water for some top end with the grimR.prop fitted.
The F1 nearly flipped backwards with full throttle starts! but top end was about as fast as my mrs doing the grocery shopping. My ESC hasnt turned up yet, so i think i might try a 10x3 brushed tommorro.
Cant tell if im getting prop cavitation?? as i couldnt mount the cav plate level with the sponson bottoms. but its only out by appox 3mm . would this be ok?

I think that would work just fine. If you want you can add a little weight on the bow to stop the lift. That Ep-1 looks real good on there

Hi I'm new to the FE but not new to RC 30 plus years. on a tunnel your prop shaft should be about 1/6" to 1/8" above the sponson bottoms becouse when you run the front of the boat will be up in the air. I do have 6 or so #1 in the nats for the APBA be for you say anything try it. put your boat on the table and lift the front and see how far down the prop goes. but like I said I know nothing about FE

Jay, thanks mate, i will be putting the batt further forward like you said.

I tested it out today with a 10x3 brushed and a novak GTX esc. 2S 3800 lipo.
HOLY F*%K!!!!. scarred the crap outta me. full throtle start would surely end in a flip.
                    Old Guy,
the motor position as you say is not too bad....at first it cavs, then it will suddenly grip and ABSOLUTLY fly. I mean litrually FLY. It begun to lift so high it was just riding on the prop. A quick release off the throttle ended in a nose dive, popped the cowl off, wet my ESC and reciever (dam plastic bag didnt work) and i spent the rest of lunch trying to recover my boat as it floated down steam.
Next time i will take a recovery boat!. Managed to dry out my electrics and they came good just 1/2hr ago. (amazing luck.) getting some electrical circuit cleaner spray and some circuit laqure for next time. Not to mention a better waterproffing system than a plastic bag!
So yes i need a lot more weight forward i suspect, and might try the GrimRacer prop as it doesnt seem to cav as bad to get going.
Once set up better i will be sure to get a video and post a link to youtube.
Thanks guys for your help in getting me started in FE boats!

One thing i noticed you might want to try is slowly build up your speed and not gun it. Remember your not drag racing so why not try half throttle and then build from there. One guy you might want also want to talk about setting up your boat is Darin. He has had a couple of tunnels and should be able to help you out with it. Plus it sounds like old guy has some knowledge on this to.
