Do a google search for Tip Tinner. Helps with tips. Sometimes you can save one that was sanded.

I haven't used my 80 watt iron in years. Not since end to end soldering Nimh cells. The 40 watt works for most everything I do.

^^-This thing is a renamed Hakko station I believe a 936. I've had two for 3 years, extremely powerful and with a chisel tip this will take care of 95% of jobs. I too use a torch sometimes but be careful you don't overheat the joint. Use 60/40 solder also.
That's a killer deal. Do they sell tips for it too?

This is the one I use. You can get it a lot of places.

By the way, I am using the same tip as when I bought it four or five years ago...

Well, gave the 25 watt another try tonight. I was able to solder end to end cables and shrink wrap them. I put a new tip in the iron and let it heat up. Dipped both ends in the flux, tinned the tip and then used the $3 harbor freight helping hands to melt them both together. This was still with the pencil tip. Tomorrow I might try my charger lead cables, so I will be doing 12ga wire to 4mm banana plugs and some xt60's on the opposing ends. Will give the chisel tip a try.

That is the problem, sucked all the heat away.

Been using my old Weller 80W soldering gun for all kinds of work since the mid 70's. Amazed that it is still going. Copes with connectors with no problem

Soldering is going much better, even with 25watts. Chisel tip is helping, clean tinned tip helpling with heat transfer. I've soldered battery connectirs, made my own charge leads and some combo connectors like EC3 to XT60. Haven't tried the 5.5 bullets yet. Is there a common way to do those? Like positive red is the female etc?

                      Hi Ken
I already messed up another thread, let's see how much more damage I can do.......lol...
On the ESC side, male connector on positive and female on negative.
Opposite on the battery. Red wire is soldered to a female connector, hence "red hot female"
Too many boats, not enough time...

T.S. Davis-- The soldering station I had the link to is a Hakko 936 copy. I have been buying tips on ebay and a few other places for awhile now. This is one of the chisel tips.

                        http://gokimco.com/hakko-t18-s3-chis...QWkaAvKt8P8HAQ

Anyway this station is an animal and is cheap enough to always have an extra laying around. Sometimes I'll use a torch to break joints but this really has done the job for the past 3 or 4 years.
