    Sea Phantom - Interesting Article/Video

Doing some research and came across this article with pics and a video.

    Thought it was interesting.

    Enjoy.

Water drags on a moving body much more than air, which is why hydrofoils and catamarans go so much faster than conventional hulled boats: Less of them touch the speed-sapping water.... Still in development, the Sea Phantom has been evolving since boat designer David Borman, who made his first boat at 12 years old, came up with the idea.

Looks very cool. I wonder if they made it anywhere with it. Are you planning a hydrofoil? It would be something to see in a rc boat!

Neat concept, but like the link said... 70 mph in a boat isn't exactly Earth shattering. I have a 22 foot Champion bass boat with a 225 Mercury EFI outboard that routinely runs in the upper 60's with a conventional hull. What the Sea Phantom lacks in speed, I certainly hope it will gain in fuel economy.

On a side note, the Mercury outboard fitted to the Sea Phantom appears to be a 2.5 liter motor from Mercury's racing division. Probably not going to win any awards for fuel economy with that particular motor. Fun... yes, fuel miserly... not even close.

Yeah it's a shame too, the guy that designed and built this boat lives down the street from me and it is sitting in his front yard. He ran out of money and can't find any investors to take the chance. The latest version has a Viper V-10 in it, he came to my shop and asked me about putting a turbo on it . http://www.heraldtribune.com/article...ICLE/131229989

Try to talk him into joining the FE model boat ranks. Might see some interesting design innovation given his talents

Tony I actually never thought about that, Dave is really a pretty cool guy to talk to. Ya never know what he might come up with that could be applied to RC boats.

Be fun to work with him on maybe a 1/6 scale version of his boat - you might try to encourage him, also help powering it for FE.
