Hi Guys,
I have been lucky enough to buy a Kroker Sea Wasp 6v motor off of Ebay here in the UK for the equivalent of $30. It was advertised as being in good looking condition but untested by the owner. It has just arrived and apart from a bit of a grubby casing looks good. Quickly puttting a 2S lipo on the contacts has it spinning smooth and quietly.
Looking at other pictures on the forum, it does not seem to have as extensive set of castings as some.I presume that some of the motors pictured had some sort of mount fitted and possibly Octura Kool Klamps? I simply have what I presume to be the basic water cooling pipes to the brushes.
Not quite sure what to do with the motor. I bought it almost as a piece of history: when I started boating, to buy them over here in the UK would have probably taken a month's salary and needed a load of very expensive cells to get the best out of it ( silver zincs if I remember). One of our magazine stalwarts, Peter Russell, even had one powering one of his model planes proving to be years ahead of his times . This being in the early 70's.
I suppose I could just clean it up and put it on the shelf to look at, or just sell it on and try and make a quick profit. I am interested in the growing trend over here for renovating/recreating what might be called "vintage" boats from the 50/60/70's and might look for something suitable to run it in.
The question is, what, if anything is available in the line of spares parts for these motors. Thinking of brushes in particular.
Any thoughts comments or help most welcomed. Sure is a fine piece of precision engineering .
