Thanks, Lenny - You've been tremendously helpful. I was thinking I would start my build thread once I had a better idea as to what the heck I'm doing... ha. At this point I have way more questions than answers.... so Q&A is perhaps the best place for this thread? Please let me know if I'm wrong. I'm taking pictures as I go and intend to lay out my build (in hindsight) in an orderly fashion once I've worked through all of my RC rookie questions/mistakes. After posting the above pictures last night, I removed the nitro engine and related parts, and also used a heat gun to remove all the factory proboat decals... it's now truly a clean slate. I can tell I'm hooked already as I'm willing to sacrifice sleep.

Next step is to find a brushless setup. Still leaning toward the 4082 combo deal at this point, unless I can find a comprable setup cheaper, or used.

Lenny, or anyone else for that matter... what is the best way to mount the new motor in the hull? An entirely new mount fastened to the hull somehow, or a new mount that I fasten to the stock engine mount? The original engine mount had vibration dampening rubber spacers between the mount and the hull... hopefully I will no longer need those as I had to sacrifice one last night to get the engine out.

    Cheers, gents - happy Sunday

Hear a couple of pictures of mine and every thing that is in is hot glued,
It was put together that way for testing what at I had on hand laying around at the moment.
But It work pretty good so I just have been running it like that.
So it need to be done right and painted to some day,
Just to many boats and heli's and stuff to keep track of now.

Also did you look at any of the links I posted in post #10,
There are some nice started builds in those post.
And good idea to that you could mod to your own setup and build it to your liking.
Bullwink boat was coming a long bu t do not know what happen to him,
      Just moved on I guess.

Looks good, Lenny! Thanks for the pictures, very helpful. With you're guidance (including the links you provided for other conversions), I think I'm headed down the right path. I'll post a couple of pictures of hull as it sits today. I need to make a motor/ESC puchase ASAP... I'll try to find time today to do some online shopping.

I'm getting the 4082 and SeaKing 180 ESC... would two of these batteries be OK?

So it looks like you plan on running 4s?
Which KVM motor are you planning?
The 4082 will consume a decent amount of energy, so 2s packs are gonna really haft to work. Might think about 4s packs wired parallel.
I'm not saying 2s packs won't work, just gonna have shorter run times

I was going to get the 1600 motor. I'm willing to sacrifice a little speed for more run time... so I welcome your advice. So how about two of these:

              http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...arehouse_.html

And can you explain what you mean by wiring them parallel? After hitting submit on this message I'll do some homework myself... still learning the ropes - thanks for your patience.

                Those would work.
                Series and parallel, ok
Series is when you connect (for ex.) two 2s packs to double the voltage, giving you 4s
Parallel is when you connect (for ex.) two 4s packs, the voltage stays the same but the mah is doubled, giving you more runtime
So for ex. They look like this
                Series - 4s1p= two 2s 5000mah packs for a total of 14.8v and 5000mah
                Parallel - 4s2p= two 4s 5000 mah packs for a total of 14.8v and 10000 mah
Hope I didn't confuse you more

Found this ... seems simple, and makes good sense. I'll order a parallel connection while I'm at it. Good suggestion; thanks.

You do not want that junk,

You need 5.5 bullets for connector and your boat setup will be happy.

Looks like OSE is out of the 4082/180A combo deal in 1600kv... the only one in stock appears to be the 1800kv motor. How much does that change things? if at all? And would you recommend that I just buy the components individually and stick with the 1600kv motor?

Thanks for the reply, Lenny - I'll look elsewhere for batteries with a 5.5 connector. I was actually at my LHS last night and the guy tried to steer me away from lipo and go with nihm batteries.

Hey at this time I think you have more info about rc boats and lipo's,
Than your LHS guy will ever know.
Trust me go to them for help or parts as a last resort,
And try not to Laugh in their Face at what they may have to say to you for info on stuff.

Like I said do not be in a hurry with this stuff and read some of the links and learn how thing work first,
That will help you when making setup choices down the line.

Was able to spend some time with the SW36 tonight. Replaced stock servo with a high torque servo and also installed thicker 4-40 rudder linkage rod. Before and after Pictures attached.
