It must be a joy to run a boat without a smoke trailer..... just ordered the 180 seaking / programming card / Leo 4082 1450kv / m445 prop / and a new 3/16 copper prop sleeve. (did not want to order the engine from hobbyking, shipping takes too long for me in Chicago)
Thank you for all your help.
I'll keep an eye out for your results.
Also you might try getting your strut and prop level. Looks like you have negative angle there. Neutral to start manComment

Definitely, ill post back once i get it all built back up, already cut out all the old stuff. I got a new shaft and cable, battery trays, a second water intake... and some other stuff to make the build look professional. 1-5 shipping.... lol cant wait.Comment

Was going to mention the strut angle also and if you looking for advice that is close in size to an apparition do a search for apparition in the build sectionComment

Another question..... not to be too ambitious but would this setup run 7S or 8S? and do i need an external BEC also, what kind if so?.... it was not mentioned.
I did most of the sanding of the internal fiber glass and removed all the old components last night.Comment

The esc are supposed to be fine on 6s with bec. I run mine on 5s without issue, but some guys disable the bec when running anything over 4s on these and use an external pack. Can't say for sure you need external bec, you're choice.
7 and 8s are out of the question thoComment

Getting close... i still have to program the ESC, and find a replacement screw for the rudder... somehow i lost it in the rebuild.Comment

So, the build went great and the bud runs like crazy. It is a very hard boat to beat in a straight line. I ran tests against a modded sv-27, miss geico, and a pro boat (5s only). I ran 6s in the Budweiser select. The engine was only slightly warm after a full run, batteries and connectors cool, esc did not real get past warm. The pro boat was far more stable at its top speed which was slightly slower. The bud tends to bounce from side to side a bit, but there was a little chop so that might explained it. Video is attached of a speed run and subsequent crash once I got off the throttle.

Sorry to hijack such an old thread, but thought it better than starting again..
Just scored one of these brand new.. for quite a bargain I must add.
So.. this will probably be my sons boat.. what size batteries would you recommend for a bog standard set up?
I have 2S and 4S that I use in my buggies.. would the 4S be ok?Comment

I would say it just depends on what came in the boat. The tech specs for this hull are all over the board since it is made stock in china. I pulled out everything thing and went 6s, leopard. 180 hv. And never got the boat to settle. Way to unstable past 50 mph. If you are going stock as you mentioned I would just use the recommended bats...... Probably 4s, but look at the kv of the engine and the esc amp draw before you dump 4s in. Make sure the parts can handle it. In my opinion this boat performs well between 35-45 mph end build. Mine is basically a 6s show boat. Stopped running it cause I was sick of sending the retrieval boat after it. LolComment

Nice comeback from an early catastrophe. I still find it strange that the instructions with the boat said 6s. All the specs from the suppliers of these boats mention 11.1V (3s) packs for that 2726kv motor.
Here's one.
HobbyEase - RC Cars & Trucks, RC Tanks, RC Accessories, RC Tools, Radios, RC Car Accessories, RC Car Parts, RC Boat Parts, RC Plane Parts, RC Boats, RC Helicopter Parts
I've upgraded 4 different boats from that site. & they all perform pretty well. They all had that same motor/esc combo in them but I never even tried them as I bought the boats specifically to upgrade. I even race two of them.
You might want to consider supporting the rear of that motor. Those mounting brackets flex & bend a lot & put a lot of stress on the flex shaft where it leaves the coupling & enters the stuffing tube. Especially after a big tumble. The brackets are fine with the smaller stock motor, but that big long heavier motor will stress it.
Stangas.
In light of the above, you will need a 3s pack. 4s is too much. I'd go for the at least 5000mah or a couple of 4000mah packs in parallel.40C or above.
The Top Edge ESC's are actually the same as the Seaking & Turnigy ESC's, so the 60A ESC is pretty good with the prop that comes with the boat as it is not the most efficient prop & therefore doesn't draw as much current as an equivalent size Octura prop, but will allow the motor to rev more freely.
Cheers.
