Aquacraft V-24 Gas to Electric Conversion ?

    Hey Guys,
So I have a buddy that's selling his Aqua craft V-24 Gas boat that he is trying to sell and I already have a neu/castle 1717-1Y-1580KV motor laying around . The motor is huge but do you guys think its enough to push this boat? If so what esc and what kind of batteries would I need? I have never tried to build a electric boat this big so any help would much be appreciated !

    Some specs on the boat:
    Length: 58.00 inches (1473 mm)
Beam Width: 18.00 inches (457 mm)
    Weight: 15.60 Lbs. (7076 g)

Not looking to break speed records but would like it to at least go 30MPH but 50MPH would be my goal i think. Is that possible?

I am thinking that a SK130amp hv with that motor on 6s may get to 45 mph if setup right.

I would give this one a miss....new drivetrain and prop...cog ....batteries, and the ESC cost...plus removing existing hardware.

Why not just use what is their and see how it does ?

How much does he want for the boat ?

I think Doby has one of these modded to FE.

The 1717 aint gonna cut it. You'd need 2 of them on 6s each to get in the 50's. that hull is huge, and from what ive seen handles poorly. The drive train would need rebuilt as well. .250" cable.. Would need .187" to mate with the 1717 which is too small anyhow.

I did one with a LMT 3080 on 10s....not the fastest....hit about 50 give or take a bit.....a cool looking boat though, I still have it and might put a big Leopard in it just to have some fun with it.

It is built like a tank so you will need some serious power.

Yes I was just planning on taking the gas engine out and putting the new electric motor in using all the old hardware ( which looks pretty decent to me)

I sort of wanted to see what the 1717 motor would do first . Is it even worth to try that motor ?

Doby do you have any interior pictures of your set up? Are you still using the stock hardware ? Thanks

I used all the original hardware and it worked pretty well all things considered. Don't think I have any pics anywhere of the inside......I used the stock gas motor mounts and mounted an aluminum bracket to them.

Right now there is no mount or anything in the hull.

Thanks for all the info. I don't think I can afford the setup Doby did in his V-24 but i'm gonna try the 1717 and see what happens. I'm gonna go see him on Thursday and keep you guys updated if I do pick up his V-24. For some weird reason I like the idea of taking these full size Gas boats and converting them to electric. I know they are not gonna be the fastest boat but it just intrigues me!
