    Saw?

New guy to the sport here, currently running a fairly stock motley crew and a 32" pursuit. Now I know when you refer to a boat as being used for saw runs it means super high prop rpm, smaller props, high speeds. However what exactly does SAW stand for?

    Thanks,
    Ben

Ben, first off - Welcome Aboard

SAW stands for Straight A Way . It's an event, much like the Bonneville Speed Trials for cars and motorcycles, to see how fast a boat can go (in it's respective class) between two timing lights 330 feet apart in a surveyed course, and also an excuse to burn stuff up, destroy equipment, and deplete bankrolls.

      Here's a SAW record run in Q Offshore http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_k5zKjXTIc

What is often overlooked are runs leading up to a successful performance

The term SAW applied by some is often used to describe a boat rigged with the sole purpose of achieving a high top speed in the spirit of going as fast as possible in a sport running application. Many times this results in automatic membership in the ZSP/WTS Club [Zoom Splash Plop-What's That Smell] by those not realizing that SAW runs are very short (Mark's record was achieved in 2.205 seconds) and normally no more than three passes are done by SAW contestants before bringing the boat in.

      Hope that explains it.

Actually it was "Hello Chris Harris". I have no idea what I meant at the time but it was in no way intended as disrespect. I think it meant " Welcome to Chris Harris territory"
