I need some help choosing a motor, cooling jacket, mount, ESC, prop and universal for my Marine Models Miss Britan 25" Balsa /epoxy four step shallow v hull. The hobby shop man down here in Florida told me not to go with the Olympus 2.3 to 1 geared 540 system recommended by Marine Models? He was reluctant to provide much advice to a scratch builder but set me up with 3/16" Dumas ss shaft and Oleite bearing stuffing box. It was turning a 1.5" X ?" dia kleever style octura prop. My battery is a dynatracx 4200mAh 8.4v.
I picked up an old Eastern European Jiri Palicka hotliner glider motor at a swap meet and installed it with a home bent cooling coil and put it in the boat on a wood mount and metal strap with A new proboat blue brushed esc and burned the thing up except the battery! The boat was ok but motor and electronics are fryed. It ran great for ten minutes then losts of smoke...http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...flammes-09.gif
I'm Leaning towards the brushed option. Dual battery packs in this light balsa boat seems like too much weight. Do you have any recommendations on a six to seven cell brushed system like the Magnetic Mayhem or one of the Graupiner 500 series motors? Would the proboat blue esc be good with that?
How about car brushless systems that are smaller than the 540 can. A brushless system that would run on 7.2 - 8.4 volts? I fly electric brushless with 2 and 3 cell lipos and love it. I'm talking about a brushless system that would run on the Nimh battery like the one I have now (8.4 v 4200mAh) http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...es/flame42.gif
