    T120 up in smoke

I sold my stiletto and it has a T120 esc. The boat took a dunk before I sold it but the boat was running fine apart from the LVC cutting in to early. I've just had a call from the guy that brought the boat and he said he plugged the batteries in to bench test it and he said it was fine but after a short while the esc went pop and started smoking when the boat was idle and it was smoking at the rx too. Any ideas what may have caused this as I feel bad but the boat was fine before I sold it.

If it was tested by you and in working order before you sent it then i would have to guess its user error by him........in some way, or the ESC just crapped out at that moment in time. They're only 49 bucks at H King............surely he can replace it.

Bench testing for a extended period of time would have killed it. If he spun it to long on the bench without a load... poooooof goes the esc (and possible motor).

Personally, I have bought an ESC from the swap shop here sometime in 210. After programming the ESC, I literally plugged it in arming/calibrating it to my radio. I spun it up with a few blips of the throttle and it let the smoke out pretty wildly. That was the last time I plug anything in, inside the home. In many years of running FE, this was my first smoke show.

After paying for the cost of the product, plus the unforeseen 3% paypal fee in addition, it was quite the kick in the but to have it all blow up in smoke almost instantly. Ended up buying the item new for $250. $250+185 = $435. Unfortunately it's the nature of our hobby and isn't fun for the buyer or the seller.

ESC's are permanently on my list of used items to absolutely avoid. It's a roll of the dice for sure.

That's the thing. I asked him if he had been running it and he said no! So i have no way of knowing exactly what he's done, anyway I get my venom p1 tomorrow so I'm sending him the esc from that. I think I'm going to give up on eBay.

I had the same issue with a Kyosho Twinstorm which had a twin motor esc (brushed) worked fine when i had it, sold it on ebay and the seller phoned a day later to say the ESC was bust, cost for a new one was more than i sold the boat!

He's mainly into gas boats and I'm wondering if he has plugged a battery pack into the rx and that's done it!
