Well I got to the quarry today, finally.
The first run was with a 38x1.4 carbon prop. Run didnt last well, boat barely moved.
Run 2 was with a 45x1.4 prop. When I left I forgot to grab the 40, so it was all or nothing. Results were good. Boat did boat wheelies. Speed seemed slow. My COG was around 35%, water was a bit choppy. Boat flipped at the end in a turn. I got a little to close and took extreme action.
Run 3 is a continuation of run 2.
Note i have a 2S lipo beeper/shield thing to let me know when the batteries get low. After all this running never heard it? I was wondering if the way I had my packs wired would affect the operation of it? I have them wired in series to get 4S @ the ESC.42" Osprey, 32" Pursuit, 26" Bling Rocket (rescue), Blizzard Rigger, JAE 21FE rigger, Hobby King rigger (RIP)Comment

That looks awesome ! Firstly your Samurai looks so good that I am jealous! I have a red one but the white is beautiful, your graphics are great too! In your first vid with the small prop you didn't really run the boat a long distance. Was it running too slow? I couldn't judge in the vid. The 2nd vid is quite fast, the water is way rougher than any of the conditions I was under. So I think the boat is running very well. I remember you said you are using an UL-1 motor right? I am running the 1800kv Motley Crew motor. I used a 1.4x40 carbon prop and then a 1.4x42 , the difference is not that big, finally I used a x642 p/s prop, wow, it was noticeably faster. Temp was good, 100-110 on motor and ESC and the same on batteries, sometimes higher ( 116) but not by much. I couuln't GPS it because I didn't want to jam it into the hull and cause damage. I have a question: what ESC are you using? The wheelies are fun but I found out eventually because I did not calibrate the throttle curve right so as I pulled the trigger the motor accelerated too quickly. Also, just my opinion, the pitch of the motor in your vid sounded lower than I would expect, I too had that happen then I realized I didn't have full throttle. Hope you don't mind me being long winded. Again, loved your vid and am glad somebody is enjoying the Samurai!Too many boats, not enough time...Comment

Hobbywing 150A Opto is the ESC.
I will check my settings on it again to make sure Im getting everything from it. Thinking of doing another run today.
We have a big temp difference and I was running a much larger prop! But I think its the outdoor temp and the frigid quarry temp. This quarry Im running in hit a spring way back when and filled up with water. So the water is always cold. There are a few in the area like this- we have many quarries.
I had the one roll in a to-tight turn. After that no issues. After the flip it didnt sound like I had any water in the hull. But when I was finally done there was. On my boat it appears the original owner put some caulking around the seam. So that leads me to believe the top was separating from the bottom. I got about 4-5 table spoons of water in the hull, just to the bottom of batt packs.
Im thinking of trying to separate the two halves and put some carbon on the floor and more glass on the top part. Then rejoining them with PL glue.42" Osprey, 32" Pursuit, 26" Bling Rocket (rescue), Blizzard Rigger, JAE 21FE rigger, Hobby King rigger (RIP)Comment

I am not familiar with that ESC, when i ordered mine, Minicat was no longer selling the boat with the ESC and when I asked Jim if my Seaking 90A would do he said it should be ok, so I just used the 90A , as i mentioned earlier that I did have trouble setting up with my Tactic Radio. I wasn't getting full throttle and when I cranked my throttle trim to full while programing the ESC, the motor would spin the moment I connect to the batteries next time! ( I cranked the trim because according to the manual one is supposed to set all EPA, Trim, etc. to the highest setting) Well, after I posed the questions here I got helpful answers and Jim told me to leave the trim in the center position because that is the 100% position, on computer radio beyond that point it is usually indicated as 100%+.
I wouldn't know what to say about your hull, my motor mount was knocked loose when UPS did its number on it. I Epoxied it back and used fibre glass tape on both sides of the mount. I sure wish I have the skill to separate the two halves and do what you are planning to do! I just can imagine how nice with the carbon reinforcement! I got water a few times and I found out if i don't grease the stuffing tube really well, water gets in, also I put a short piece of fuel tubing where the inside of the stuffing tube ends, so the flex cable is inside of it until just before the collet, ( The stock coupler would not grab the flex cable, ordered a collet),it seemed to help the water issue.Too many boats, not enough time...Comment

10-4 on the stuffing tube. Looks like this is a normal procedure to do anymore.
I set my esc up with everything flat at 0 trim, so it should be good to go. With 4S and the motor it should be 30K RPM area.
It appears that the caulk like material is whatever tenshock did to seal this hull- I can see the same stuff inside of it. I believe this one may have been a second or they had to put some around the tunnel part in front as the two parts are a little off. Its not that bad though.42" Osprey, 32" Pursuit, 26" Bling Rocket (rescue), Blizzard Rigger, JAE 21FE rigger, Hobby King rigger (RIP)Comment

We have one of our Samurai's set up with a UL-1 motor for running in the Limited Sport Offshore class. She is incredibly fast and handles any water you throw at it! We have an Aluminum CNC 3 blade from Tenshock on it. The prop is a tad too much as it runs pretty hot. Everyone at the lake was blown away by the incredible speed and handling. Next step will to play with detonguing and/or back cutting the prop.
Due to severe back problems which recently got worse, I will be selling all of my boats in the near future. Watch the swap shop. I will be asking $300 shipped for this boat. Sorry, don't have any pics of it just now.Mini Cat Racing USA

What prop exactly do you have on it?
I have an X440/3 bade thats rather nice. I was thinking of giving it a go.
Do you have any video of this boat Jim? I would like to see and compare.
Need to get my Eagle Tree outfitted with some 5.5 bullets so I can use in this boat also.42" Osprey, 32" Pursuit, 26" Bling Rocket (rescue), Blizzard Rigger, JAE 21FE rigger, Hobby King rigger (RIP)Comment

The CNC prop is a 437/3 and it's too much prop for the UL-1. I wouldn't use the 440/3!~ The difference is that the Samurai prop is submerged rather than a surface prop like we run on our other boats. You have to use far less prop!Mini Cat Racing USA
