    Pursuit Owners.....Help me out!

Just got my Persuit from OSE and will have tons of questions as this is my first boat.

1.Mine didn't come with decals like the windshield blacked out or the big "Persuit" sticker I see in everyone elses pics?

2.I bought the 1pc flexshaft from Kintec racing. it's actually smaller than stock and the plastic tube that goes throught the brass tube is now smaller. Is that a problem?

    3. Do you grease between the brass and plastic tubes or just between the flexshaft and plastic tube?

4.Am I safe to run this 4s2p with any re inforcment? The hull seems pretty thin.

Took the boat camping with me this weekend. What a blast to drive. I do hace one problem however. The boat is taking on water and I'm not sure where. I taped the hatch down, so I don't think it's there? I let the boat sit in water for 15 min and nothing leaked in. I'm thinking it somehow coming up the propeller. Either between the brass tube and the plastic or the plastic to the shaft?

      OSE doesn't sell the pursuit.

      1. Check where you bought her to see if the decal set was supposed to be included.

      2. When you say smaller are you talking diameter or length? Shorter is less weight as long as it can still reach.

      3. Grease inside the teflon tube (plastic tube) and grease the flex shaft then reinstall.

      4. Is velcro holding down the batteries? The problem comes when pulling the batteries off their velcro holders, when you pull on one end of the lipo, the other end my cause spider cracks in the gelcoat. Install a layer of glass or carbon on the floor.

To help in stuffing tube leaks, cut a piece of silicon cooling tube about 1/4" and install it like in the pic.

Actually he does sell them as this is where I bought it. I will have to email Steven and fine out about the decals.

As for No.2, it's a smaller diameter flex shaft. The new one is .150 and the original was 3/16 I believe. I have kept the stock plastic tube and put the new .150 shaft in it. There's a fair amount of room in there but figured there just more room for grease now?

The water is most likely coming up between the smaller liner & the stuffing tube. I would get another .187 shaft & put the correct teflon liner back in it. Steve sells them here at OSH.

As for the thin hull, here's a link to how I stiffened up a pursuit that I bought second hand. The gel coat under the hull where the motor mounts were attached was all cracked from the motor torque flexing the hull back & forth, so I had to fix that too.

              Everything is rock solid now.
If you don't want to go to that sort of trouble Here's a pic of a hydro floor & mount that I stiffened up with some 5/16" carbon fiber rod epoxied in against the mounts & some fiber glass laid over it along its length. Took all the flex out of the floor of the hydro.
I first saw this idea in a V hull so it definitely would work in the Pursuit. I would make them as long as you can, all the way to the transom if possible.
But a lot of people strip everything out of the hull & lay carbon fiber mat in there. That's another option.
              All the best.
              Paul.

You might also check that there is no leak in the cooling system. Just take a plastic cup and epoxy in a small piece of brass tubing to the bottom. Hook up the inlet hose from the rudder to the bottom of the cup, fill with water and let it run through. Look for leaks.

As I recall those boats(I had one) have a 1/8" gap between the stinger and the hull. I know that southshorerc sells some gaskets designed to fill that gap. This might prevent any water pushing its way up through the shaft. Good luck.

I left the stock size liner in. The .150 flex shaft is a bit loose in it but seemed fine. Could the water be coming up right in there? I've been doing some reading and it would seem alot of people have this issue and do what Diegoboy has shown above.

I read somewhere that you want to keep that gap as there is a bit of expansion and contraction from the flex shaft being pulled back and forth throughout the RPM range. This I'm not sure of but does make sence.

Here is the stuffing tube liner with the smaller .150 shaft.

Sorry Dave, I thought I read in your first post that the smaller liner was in there. But I would still get the proper .187 size shaft I posted a link to, & get rid of the .150. All that slop will most likely cause vibration & possibly end up in a broken shaft & a lost prop. It will stop the water coming up the shaft too when it's well greased.
                          Cheers.
                          Paul.
