When using a one piece flex shaft is the plastic thrust washer actually coming in contact with the strut & taking end load. As the amount of gap your leaving for cable wind up is really more a guessing game as to whether the gap left is right for flex shrinkage to be spot on so as your not going to snap the flex but the thrust washer still comes into contact with the strut.
