Picking up a 56" P.I. Fountain hull this saturday from a great member here on OSE. Yesterday we talked alittle about what to power this large hull with. He had planned on running twin 1717's with twin schulze ESC's with an estimated 50mph speeds. Since I'm not as fortuneit has him with the schulze speedo's I thought about a Leopard 5692 1040kv on 10s2p W/ Castle 240HV esc, twin 5692's 1340kv on 6s2p W/ twin T-180's or even the twin 1717's with 2 T-180 on 5-6s2p for some what of a budget build. Your suggestion would be great. Thanks

I can tell you this much, as gas engines go it would take a full mod 28.5cc or a quickdraw to get that boat above 55mph. Those are both 7hp engines. That is a much heavier boat than than a 56 aeromarine apache and a full modded 260 zenoah will get it up to 55 at most.Comment

How deep is your pocket book, what do you already have, etc??

Would like to use my existing Castle 240HV if possible...Eagles may soar in the clouds, but weasels never get sucked into jet engines..56" P.I. Fountain /37"Genesis Cat.-1717/T-180/33" DF Copy-1717/T-180Comment

I havent seen very many builds with the 2028 John, but I did see JMSCARD's old DF Sniper hull with a 2028 and it looked really good on the video's. I'm not trying to break any sound barriers but 50-55mph flat out would be nice...Eagles may soar in the clouds, but weasels never get sucked into jet engines..56" P.I. A 2028 also has customer service in the USA which is a + for me. Who makes a mount for 5" rails for the 2028?..Eagles may soar in the clouds, but weasels never get sucked into jet engines..56" P.I. Fountain /37"Genesis Cat.-1717/T-180/33" DF Copy-1717/T-180Comment

for a mount you could see if james williams([email protected]) Williams racing, could make one for you, Chris (dasboata) put me onto him for a floor mount twin 1717 mount and he's been great to deal with.Comment

Not even close. Even if you have a 5692 with a 8mm rotor the motors still are very different. The Leopard series motors have 3mm iron stator laminations. The Castle and Neu motors are thinner. I dont remember off hand what the Neu's are but Patrick has stated that the Castle motors all use 2mm iron. What that means is thicker steel has a different magnetic saturation rate and strength. This effects the rotational force put on to the rotor. Thinner plates and better quality iron allow the magnetic field to remain higher during motor loading when compared to thicker/ less quality laminations.
Its not as technical as it sounds. The effect could be compared to nylon rope destructive testing. A rope with cheap materials will pull apart with a lower weight. It will literally fall apart. Why? Because the very material it was made from had lower tensile capabilties. You stretched to far and it exceeded the material strength limits, right?
Same goes with the motor magnetic field. Use thicker plates, cheaper iron and the effect that makes a motor rotate (due to attraction) comes into play. Since it will already be a lower value at ambient temps, the addition of heat inside the motor reduces the field strength as temperature increases. I seem to remember Joerg stating a 10C rise in iron reduces magnetic field by an equal amount (10%).
I would have to search thru my saved documents at home or work but I know I saved his post somewhere. Quite startling if you really think about it seriously.
A 5692 IMO has about 2/3's the power of a 2028 of equal KV and I am being generous. Just put the motors side by side and its clear just from exterior dimensions.

The Castle 2028 is the same diameter but 21mm longer............... its a Beast. It has pushed my Hydro to almost 60 mph on 9s2p. It will get yours to 60 on 10s no problem.NEED PARALLEL CONNECTORS?? QUALITY 5.5MM, 8MM, 8 AND 10 AWG, GET THEM HERE:http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...est!&highlight=
