    Flex Shaft - 4mm vs .150

Couple quick questions on 4mm vs .150 Flex Shaft.

I have been giving some consideration to a couple different plug and run hulls on HK but noticed some of them have a 4mm flex shaft.

If anyone has experience with these can you tell me:

    1. Do the 4mm shafts have a 3/16" end for standard prop fitment.
    2. If a person needed a new collet, or new flex shaft, are the 4mm parts readily available.
    3. .150 is less than 0.5mm smaller diameter than 4mm, can you retrofit in a .150 shaft without changing the stuffing tube without problems.

    Thanks

no. the 4mm shafts have 4mm for standard 4mm prop. but you can easely get a little addon so yoru 3\16 props fits perfectly on the 4mm shaft.

yes. 4mm collets and new 4mm flex shafts are avalible from HK and european dealers. not shure how easy it wil be to get a hold of in the US though.

depends on the stuffing tube realy. i had both that fits and the one that dont fit.

I ran 4mm before switched to .15" and then 3/16" and recently 1/4, also .13" in some of the ECOs, so i've used them all. From what I bought I found the "4mm" flexshafts measued 3.8mm, you know .15"=3.81mm........

Many Chinese boats use square end flexshafts, some use soldered(not welded) shafts. They are intended to fit 4mm bore props, could be threaded or bare shaft, either way can be easily fit to 3/16" props with a small piece of 3/16 brass tube. Steve has them done here too.

pretty sure all of the HK boats have 4mm shafts, no biggy, like mentioned before a small shim can be made from some 3/16 brass tubing. When/if time comes to retro fit a .150 one piece flex in there, i know the apparitions are as easy as just taking the old 2 piece 4mm shaft out drilling out the strut and installing a 3/16 bushing. heres your parts to do that from right here at OSE:

          3/16 bushing

In the meantime you can just run a shim to run 3/16 props on your 4mm shaft if you dont want to make your own:
