HAHA! Actually, that canal os well below freezing. It's actually really odd. Nobody knows why it happens, but in the beginning of winter, the canal (between 2 inland lakes) freezes. Then, once the lakes begin to ice up, the canal thaws. It stays open all winter long after that. Even in subzreo temps. That means I've always got a place to run!!

I think the best approach isn't pro or anti anything, but to simply lay out the basic facts and let the truth become self evident.
