    Mean machine?

am thinking of getting one for offshore(14.8v class) and have some Q's(be gentle it would be only my 2nd glass hull I've 'built')
    1) how much assy is required for the hull itself?
    2)planning on 4s lipo, 9 or 10xl motor?
more Q's as they occur to me. TIA

I'd do an 8XL or 9XL... Are you going to run 4S1P or 4S2P???

Yes, hadn't quite decided...it would be a saddle arrangement in either case. on the one hand I could use my 7.4 packs, the other hand I'd have some nice capacity.

Rex - see my thread on my MM build(Here Kitty Kitty). It comes assembled all you have to do is sand & fill a few surface blemishes and you're good to go!

I would run a 10xl motor. The hull is pretty much complete with transom doubler and carbon floor.

hmmm my mm running 8 xl and it's moving with 6000 mah lipos from Max Amps @ 14.8 volts total on a 442 prop. It's in the build thread. Setup is fast & easy and with the pool noodle its easy to secure all the electronics and helps keep them safe from vibrations.

Rex, Drobie has a brand new one(no it's not for sale), ask him to bring it this sunday to the pond. Then I would remind him again sunday morning. There is nothing like having the boat in your hand to see it and think about what to do.

Rex, have you looked here: http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...t=mean+machine

Lots of info in that thread. The MM is an easy build as glass hulls go, with a lot of room inside to fit about any setup. I've run several setups in mine, and will have an article about it in the next RCBM. I did find that the regular Speedmaster Mini-rudder didn't work too well on my boat for good turning, especially the left turns needed on an offshore course. I used a very deep rudder, which made all the difference.

An 8XL is pretty hot for 4S on an offshore course, it will probably overheat in a 4 minute heat. I use that motor in my P Sport Hydro and find it fastest with a smaller m440 prop. I believe that a 9XL or 10XL would be more appropriate for offshore racing with the MM. I usually run 4S2P 3300 cells for oval (overkill), I don't know if you really need more for a 4-minute heat due to the heat which will build up in the motor and ESC when using over 5000 mAh from the cells.

I have yet to flip my MM over, it is pretty stable due to its design, weight and width. I find it a blast to run on the oval, particularly now with the longer rudder. Good luck on your build!

why, yes actually, I've been referring to that thread to help put together a 'shopping list' :). stuff like the speedmaster21 rudder (instead of the mini) etc. my current tally is up to $550(not including props). one nice thing about the 3/16" shaft, I can buy prop nuts at the local hwd :)

oh good. was hoping that was the case. had an issue with a strut (from Ray) where I wound up replacing it after the flex went bye-bye and the new flex didn't fit right(stub shaft was a bit larger dia than octura, I say was...now its decorating lake marion's bottom after it came apart).

Struts and shafts are a pain in the butt. Lots of electric stuff was designed for the
short Hughey shafts. IE, Fuller and Solinger.

Rex want to give one of these a try?

I could do that...keep in mind that any report on how will it did/didnot work would likely be mid may 08 since the pond is likely to start getting stiff shortly :). that said sure I'll be a tester(if the pkg cost is less than a speedmaster setup that would be a plus :)). I expect we can work out the details via email(if you like).
