personally I like the vented hulls becase they dont need to be so heavy to stay on the water at 60+mph. I say this because I am dreading to pick up some those Michigan guys boats at the Nats. I swear some of those boats were in the 50lb range. my back still hurts from last year!

I don't smile much or laugh, but that was funny. OK - Bets are on - but only if we settle up with beers!!

A friend of mine sent me a link to a site that had a discussion on this hull design about 9 months ago. It seems I was late to the party. Thought I was being informative with my posts. My appologize to Tony, Mark, the hull manufacturer and to anyone else.

Looking forward to racing against the Insane. See you at the races.

I got to see them run in person last weekend. It's a good running boat. It doesn't appear to be very critical as far as setup, which makes it easy for newbies to run. Is it the new magic bullet for sport hydro? No, just another option. It never hurts to have another choice. Will I run one? No, I'll build something a little different.

I personally think it's ugly, but that's my opinion. There are plenty of guys who like the looks. I still like open cockpits and drivers in my sport hydros. One thing is for sure, the designs being run in full size racing are definitely closing in on what we modelers consider outriggers. The yellow boat in the picture above looks like someone blew up an octura wingding rigger (1970's) and put a big cowl and a v-8 in it.

I suppose I should just give in and build to the letter of the rule. I'll probably go faster.

Will it have vented sponsons? What's your take on that if you don't mind me asking?

Vented through the deck or vented out the back? The deck will be solid. The sponsons will have a very wide stance.

I could just build another modded whiplash. I've already had that hull up in the 90's, so it's a known quantity. That's the easiest choice.

Does anyone have dimensions of the Phil T Stealth? Specifically tunnel width (between sponsons)? And overall width? Thanks!

I like all three of the 30" players. As far as looks, the Whiplash wins for me, followed by the PT Stealth, then the Insane (I own a Whip and an Insane). I was never a fan of the PT SS21. Each has their plusses and minuses and cater to different builders' preferences.

Brian, just build a big version of your DH Pickle with room for a 4S 5,000 pack up front, and I'll be in heaven!

The really sad thing is I've had templates to build the plug for 4 years. I was so disgusted with the sport hydro rules whining that I put it on the back shelf. I've got a project in mind for the winter with input from some unexpected but very valuable corners.

It's going to be very cool and will require a driver. I don't figure I'll be giving up anything on the performance end.
