I was tossing around some numbers and it seems like a kb45 17 xl 700kv would work in an 1/8 th scale boat . I know ose doesnt sell them anymore. I also am aware of the fiegao 580 series. I want to know about the KB.Any takers?
Will a kb45 17xl work in an eighth scale boat?

They are pretty poor. Spend it on the fiego 580. Steve has them here. Or an outrunner which is what many are doing. -
Has anyone run a kb45xl on a 40+ inch hull. Ive seen some footage on some of the kb stuff .It didnt look too bad to me.The kb numbers looked better than the feigao and I can replace bearings. As a matter of fact I have a feigao 6xl and out the box its bearings and balance wasnt all that great. I had to put new bearings in it for it to even sound like something id want to run.Comment

for the 580 money I may as well buy a screamer only about 25 dollars difference. Im merely curious. Id like to get some feedback from someone that has tried a 17 xl properly set up on a 50+mm prop on 8-10s. On hobby citys site the customer reviews all sound good. Some of the bad stuff ive seen about the motors seemed to be the wrong set up. like Persons trying to run a 50mm prop on a kb458xl on 8 s lipo for example yeah I bet that did suck.Comment

The problem is the kb motors are hit and miss. Some are good, some are bad, some are ok. Roll the dice and give it a go.Steven Vaccaro

that set up for that boat will pull around 140 amps and close to 2800 watts thats really close to the max for this motor im sure. My proposed setup would have a lower kv motor, larger prop, more cells, and pull almost 20 amps less than your set up.Im not saying that youre wrong just check your set up.Try an x646 and see what u get. Ill bet youll be close to the same speed with less heat.Comment

what about a brushed motor like this:It spins 20k@18volts can easily take up to 30 volt 6 s should be good on it, and in the appropriate rpm range to run a 50 mm prop. I have no clue about specifics like IO or internal resistance.I just know its big has nmb bearings(good stuff) an internal cooling fan and all kinds of torque. It's a panasonic industrial tool motor.Attached FilesLast edited by Xfactor; 03-26-2010, 01:19 PM.Comment
