    What a beast.

How do you keep all the sand and crap out of the motor and gear ?

    Graham.

The motor does not have any holes in the ends, and the gears are sealed up very nicely from Traxxas
Did I mention that I have replaced 2 rear axles and 1 main shaft because this thing twists them like nothing I've ever seen!
On 4s this thing is just plain nuts!
I did get some new Turnigy 3s 30c packs last week and will try this thing on 6s soon..

Hobbycity sells whatever is they can buy cheapest today. There are over 100 little factories in China making brushless motors. You'll probably never get EXACTLY the same thing twice and Gawd knows about the quality. The basic 'can' style inrunners all look about the same. They are mostly all copies of the Feigao, at least on the outside. They will probably have crappy bearings and sloppy windings and cheap magnets. I've been there, done that, on a lot of motors. I have visited a bunch of these factories and seen one or two good ones and a lot of bad ones.

You may get one that's great and the next one will be a total P.O.S. ! No consistency.

You're better off buying what Steven sells. He has had experience with the products and stands by them.

Ive bought probably 10 motors of various sizes and lipos of various sizes also esc's of various sizes and not had one blow yet or a bad one, maybe im just lucky, or maybe its good prep.

We are not debating the fact that if you want quality you have to pay for it and when you do OSE is the place to go. But when you are on a budget, and just building a boat for sport, HK is there.

I have managed to get a "good" kb45 8xl i have actually opened it up and adjusted the endplay, I run it in a whiplash 20 on 6s with a Hextronic 120amp esc and Rhino 4900mah batteries (all HK stuff) First run with the Rhinos it was around 60mph, the ESC I have been using for a couple of years, and I have beaten it to hell and it comes back for more. I probably put together the whole boat apart from the RX for less than the cost of a CC240.

Hobbycity hve a public forum and take a lot of abuse when products fail, quality is getting better and better.

as I ACTUALLY have a KD 540 8s, I can tell you it has same spaghetti as fiegao inside, bearings with no slop, and seems like a great motor for 28 usd.

when i buy motors i usally get the feigaos from o.s.e as there a very good sport motor, but for esc,s and batteries some of the cheaper chinese ones are excellent. dollar for dollar i dont think the turnigy/zippy batts can be beaten or the mystery/himodel esc,s.
i did have a kd6xl the end bells came out and needed lock tighting back in and was a little amp hungry but for the money once fixed up ran really hard.

                I have a KD8XL on 5s and it lasted 4min!
but my 6XL is still going strong, the bearings suck but it still moves..

The point is you get what you pay for...Neu are expensive but high quality motors. I use Fieago motors as I am a sport runner. I will not buy cheap motors, ESCs or batteries and abuse their specs as in my opinion, if you do, that is a recipe for a very expensive upgrade as each component fails. Racers, they know the consequences and are able to live with that. Plus remember SERVICE

The bearings take about 2 mins to change if you have any mechanical know how

When you say it lasted 4 mins, what failed? Bearings? wire dropped off ? demagnetized etc etc ?

Plenty of options on the Turnigy motors. Maybe they are better.

I'm realy not sure what happend..
It will barely move and when it does get to speed it makes a whine, but the bearings move very free, and it gets very hot unloaded..
My MM did run awesome, my guess 45-50mph, till it stopped dead in the water..
