Aquacraft Miss Vegas Electric Conversion

Hi All, I am pretty new to power boating, I have owned a Miss Vegas with .18 IC engine for around a year now.

Our local park has just banned IC engines and I am looking to convert her to electric. Can anyone help with the parts that I would need to retain (or improve) on its current performance - without going crazy on cost?

I know there are a couple of threads on conversion and they are great, but I am new to the electric side of things.

I ran my electric Vegas at 40 - 45 MPH, so yeah, it was great improvement. I used Neu motor 1515 1.5Y on 5S LiPo battery 42mm prop and Hydra 120 as controller. Ran that for 1 year and graduated to larger 45" boats. Some things I learned with my Vegas:

- Don't buy cheap components (motor, controller, batt.) You want to spend money once, not 5 times...
- Castle's Hydra controllers do not like water, keep them sealed in waterproof box. Keep an eye on watercooling when running.
- Cut wires on controller short. What it comes with, hack off half. Keep battery pack wires also short, 2 - 3 inches. Choose placement with minimum wire length.
- To properly place electric components inside Vegas, you will need to completely gut it. Stock radio box and stuffing tube will have to go. Battery, being heaviest component, goes in the front where gas tank was. If you decide to use flex cable, use pre-made 3/16 size cable and strut.

Low buck :

SV 27 motor & cooling jacket - SV 27 speed control
Proboat motor & cooling jacket & Proboat or UL-1 speed control
UL-1 motor & OSE cooling jacket & UL-1 speed control

Midrange :

Faigao 9XL & OSE cooling jacket & Etti 150 non bec speed control

2 4S 5000 mah packs in parallel for these power packages

Once you decide, more tips will follow ; my FE Vegas conversion is on page 3 of the Boat Building section. I already had a motor & speed control so I went with the Neu & Hydra power package. Same for batteries; already had 4S packs plus they fit better. Waterproofing was my biggest challange ; some have chosen sub-hatch but to give me more battery space I modded the cowl ; easier tape-down as well.

Yup, the 540 XL [9XL size]

Also, can you recommend a motor mount?

OSE seems to be out of the motor mounts; try rcraceboat.com under the motor section

Why do you suggest the non BEC for the Etti controller?

Conventional wisdom suggests that without a built-in BEC, the speed control will run cooler

Glad to help BTW there are some other less expensive speed controls to consider from China; I'm not all that famaliar with them, maybe someone else can assist with some ideas.
