if you consider Pulso, as cheap as they are, still too expensive considering the fact that they might burn quickely then go for Mystery, there's nothing cheaper, yesterday I won a bid at 9,6Euros, the first one I got is still in use after 20+ runs and one immersion, just in case I've been chasing low price bid around 10Euros and already have 2 as spare! I wouldn't mind to burn one every month!

But be carefull when someone says "I burned this or that", you never know what has been done, never ever!

If you're afraid of using any cheap brand, if you can make your own watercooling, then waterproof it with bathroom silicon, put 2 or 3mm of silicon all around, even if the thing burn silicon will act like a shield, not a strong one but better than few microns of waterpoofing spray!

Staying away from PULSO. I know someone that burned up 2 of these 100A back to back running just 14 cells 4200mah. I know everyone has heard or seen someone loose a ECS but 2 back to back makes me worried....
Actually, low voltage setups can be harder on ESCs than high voltages since guys try to make the cheaper setups run faster by propping up and up - and they have no idea of the amp draw they actually have. It is usually the amps that kills an ESC, not the volts. You can draw 300+ amps from modern cells.

But since he blew them up on the bench - not in the water - I would be more worried about your buddy's setup. Has he been able to hook up a different brand of ESC without the fireworks? I have no experience with the Pulsos, they may have spotty quality control. Or not.

            I fully agree with Fluid!
I personnaly have a Eagle Tree MicroPower recorder, that helps a lot! I know that I'm pulling 76amps burst 68amps constant with my Mystery80/Feigao8XL/12x4000Nimh cells setup, and that's just reliable and cheap, but once again not for race, just for fun sport!
So the guy who blew two Pulso back to back, how many amps was he pulling?that's the question and the only one!
I think that in the FE world, if ones wants to share his experience he needs to have real datas, so if somebody tells me that Mystery or Pulso are c..., it will certainly have some influence on my choice, but you'll find some threads where one guy is pulling 90 amps out of his Mystery without trouble for many month now, thats a fact with a data! believe that one!

I am using feigao 100a from astec, water cooled ,needed waterproofing. Great linear throttle and has not got over 100deg F running 5s , 9xl and x642 in triton hull. Have ordered another for next project. the oemrc program card from UH works on this esc as well.

Actually there are many questions. Since both ESCs blew up on the bench he was not drawing many amps at all, or at least he should not have been. Had the ESCs been abused in the boat before they blew up? Were they ever plugged in backwards? Had they ever been run with one of the motor wires disconnected? Did he run them with BEC on more cells than the maker recommends? How long are the power wires between the cells and the ESC? Along with excessive amps all of the above could lead to a premature ESC failure. Since two failed, either there is a problem with those two (doubtful but certainly possible) or he has missused them.

I am trying to get the feedback on the pulso that you asked for. I know that the guy is a battery expert and sells batteries for a living so there is no hook-up issues. One fried during use on the pond and one fried when he turned off the switch to the REC. But both exibited the cogging people talk about with inferior ESC'S. This was on a 11xl Pulso motor and a 10xl Blue Nemisis in Shunkworks Cat with 14 cells and 16 cells Thanks
