Best lipos for the money for sport running

I am looking to maybe try some differnt lipos for my MC. Several senior members have mentioned they are the heart of an FE boats performance so whe n those guys talk I listen. So what would be a good brand and size for the MC? Should I go to 5s, will that fry my esc? Do I need to convert to 5.5 Bullet conectors?

I currently run packs built for my SCT that to compete under ROAR rules. Great for my truck but probably not the best for the boat. Venom 2s 5000mah 40c hard cased lipos. Would I see a performance increase with differn't packs?

I run my "modified" P-Limited Motley Crew with the stock 1800 Kv motor, AQ 60A ESC, 4S1P/5000 mAh pack and 5.5 bullets, getting into the high 40s. The ESC won't like 5S, I would not do it. The pack I run is a premium 65C ThunderPower pack - because I have several of them and run them in other boats too. How much extra performance do I get from them versus a lower-quality pack? Don't know but I believe from what I have seen and raced against that there is little given up by using min-level packs like GrimRacer and GensAce packs. The limited motors seldom pull over 80-90 amps so the cells aren't stressed anything like they wouild be in a full-powered P race setup at twice that amp draw. Your venom packs may be fine if you can believe the label....

If I was buying packs for a sport-run Limited-powered boat I'd get one of the two above, minimum 35C and 5000 mAh. There may be other brands as good, but those I have some basis for choosing. Plenty of folks will swoon over the price of the HK packs, but I have seen too many of them give sub-standard performance, short life and/or fires. You cannot trust the labelling on cheap packs. The time I spend with my FE boats - racing or just running with friends - it too valuable to waste with poor performance and lousy reliability in order to save a few $$$, so I choose higher-end parts than some others do. You only go around once and I prefer to reduce the frustration level with my hobbies. Others are free to make their own choices. Decide what you want and make it happen.

I completely agree you get what you pay for. My free time is very limited with two 3 year olds so when I can slip away I don't want problem I want guaranteed performance. That is one of the big reasons I have talked my self out of a nitro boat just to much hassle I just want to plug and play. Thanks for the advice guys I use a thunder power charger and am very impressed with its quality and performance. Ill price out some of there packs.

Haiyin packs also work well. They are more but I think they're a good bridge between the TP/hyperion packs and the lower end sky/zippy/ace etc. packs. Sure they probably aren't the best packs on the market, but they definitely aren't the worst. I have 4 packs and counting and have yet to get a bad pack. They also almost all come stock with 5.5mm connectors and 8AWG in the larger packs and 10 in smaller ones.

I figured I'd put it in because the gen's ace come with the plastic 4mm connectors and 12AWG wire, not showing that they can discharge 200A constant.

I have gens ace 5300 30c and run them in my ul-1. I honestly like them more than my $80 a piece grimracer batteries. Great batteries regardless of price.

Whats everyones thoughts on venoms 5000mh 30c?
the guy at the lhs said they have a 1yr warrenty no matter what, thats why he stocks them.
I asked even if they puff ? and he said yes.
I myself have a hard time believing this, whats your thoughts?

Venom's are overpriced, just like their motors. Every lipo will puff if you make it, nicer, top of the line batteries will be able to handle what they're rated too before puffing, the HK and other cheap packs won't be able to make it that far.
