1999 Dumas Crackerbox Boat Conversion to Electric

    Hi.
A neighbor and I "inherited" a 1999 Dumas Crackerbox RC Boat with a 1 HP weedwhacker engine in it that no longer works. We'd like to convert it to brushless electric propulsion but really have no clue where to start or even if this is a bad idea.
We've removed the engine and cleaned up the boat.
It weighs 12 lbs. without the gas engine.
Dimensions: 48" long by 17.5" across the beam by 5.75" from deck to keel.
    We have a transmitter/receiver with 3 channels.
What we'd like to know is this: what motor size to get (we'd like it to go fast but probably won't be racing it), what Electronic Speed Controller size to get, what battery sizes, etc.? Also, it's running a submerged shaft with a bend, so we were wondering what size/pitch propellor and flex-shaft to get?

Thank you in advance for any advice you might have.
