    Zippkits jae 21fe v2 outrigger_wood kit build

I think I've always wanted to build this kit. It seems like everybody's ZippKits outriggers run really good.

This is the JAE 21FE V2 kit. They call it a 33FE in the manual. Version Two of their popular 21FE outrigger. I'm not sure why they don't just rename it the JAE 33FE?

Either way, it's a longer tub and can easily handle a 6s setup, which is why I chose it for my next build. I know it's a bit in between classes, but that's ok, I don't race. Maybe I should make it a 4s build. Maybe that's the sweet spot for this design. But I want a 6s ZippKits rigger.

So, I'll try to apply what I've learned so far after building a few boats. I'm thinking, build it fast and light. And that's the priority, not looks. And take it to my lake and ring it out.

I'll still fuss over my build quality. I can't help that, that's who I am. But I really want to go fast with this boat.

Here's a few pictures to start with...

I'm not sure how much info is out there on this JAE33 rigger. I've seen quite a bit on the JAE21, the original version. The JAE21 is a true 4s rigger and even runs well on 3s.

But on the ZippKits website they say the JAE33 can be setup for 4s or 6s. I'm going with 6s, and the TP Power 4070 is a long can. It's 40mm diameter x 100mm long.

So I did a mockup on the tub to check the fit of my electronics...

I had to know if the motor would fit under the cowl. If not, I was going to use an OSE mount so I could lower the angle.

It easily fits. This is a true 6s size tub...

This is good to know now, since the stock mount gets epoxied into the tub. Otherwise I would switch out the stock mount and replace it with a wood former to save weight.

Also, the stock mount weighs less than half of the OSE mount.

                One ounce versus 2.3 ounces...

Here's a look at the JAE33 tub mocked up with 6s electronics in it. That's a ZTW 200 amp ESC in there with a pair of 3s Revolectrix 5000mah lipos!

I'm pretty sure ZippKits is saying a 82mm long motor fits. Whereas the TP Power motor designation for a 4050 is 82mm long.

Why does this have to be so confusing?

Now I know a 100mm long motor fits...

No idea yet. I've simply placed the electronics where the instructions show them to see if they fit.

The JAE 21 runs a very rear biased CG at a 60/40 weight ratio, with 60% of the weight on the front sponsons.

Does anyone know where the CG should be on this rigger?
