    Carbon fiber single daytona build

I figured I'd peck away at this while I'm building some other boats and while waiting on parts and epoxies to cure. This one is for me. I speculate if I built it like my rivercat but a little better and a little more power.....it should go faster. I hope so. This is basically going to be just a straight line, see - how - fast I can make it. It's longer so it should stay on the water easier.

    Here's my plans

Motor: custom neu 1521 with a longer rotor. 1835kv, 8mm shaft
Esc: swordfish 240 pro plus2. custom cap bank
    Connectors: green castle 6.5mm
    Servo: savox waterproof
    Flex: .187
Hardware: tfl offset strudder assy. Strut modded for roller bearings
    Batteries: (2) revolectrix 4s 5500 70c packs in series
    Prop: start with m645

This one I'm going to try a honey comb carbon inlay and do so different things to make it very tidy.

    This is one beautiful hull.....

Carbon I'll be using for the inlay. Nothing new but cool looking nonetheless. I first saw this in keiths builds. I thought it looked wonderful and thought I'd try it.

As with the cheetah...my most favorite part...sanding! Ugh!

Same as with the cheetah. ..mixing up some epoxy for reinforcement of the tips and tunnel. I chopped up some carbon cloth to mix in with the epoxy. I saw joel was doing this and it made sense as to why he was. I was doing just epoxy before, this seems like a better idea.

Letting them babies cure till tomorrow. Then I will do the inlay on both of them. I can't wait!

How much epoxy do you add to the tip's and what is your method for the tunnel?

I put 30g in each tip. 45g in the tunnel. Pour in the same as the tips. I cut the carbon fiber a little longer so it would be thicker and more of a formal "clump", so the epoxy would stay put and not run into the tips.

Travis, looks good brother. Your going to be around 50,000 rpm, roughly same I'm running in my daytona 6S setup. I do think your going to find that the 645 is going to create some torque roll issues. Mine does fine with a 642, a 445 seriously s/b/t and just a bit of cupping is what I was last working with. That was the run where It went airborne so the GPS reading is not even close to accurate, but I know it was in the upper 80's....lookn forward to seeing this one run... DJ

I'm not so sure I'll have any torque roll issues with this boat. It's going to be a bit heavier than your genesis. I add weight to the front, transom and in the bottom of the sponsons in the form of epoxy. I've used this prop in my rivercat (smaller, narrower boat) and no tq roll. I've also used it on my 26" mini with no tq roll. It didn't drive well, but still..lol. I'll weight it when I'm done, but it'll prolly come in around 9 lbs loaded.

Travis, you got me curious as to how much my Daytona does weigh fully loaded. Its only 7.5 lbs, a good bit lighter than I thought it was ! and this is with the tips filled with epoxy and about half the sponsons filled with 2 part expanding foam and a cf inlay. So I definately see yours coming in 3lbs or so heavier.

Did you mean you "dont" see mine coming in that much heavier?

Well this is my rivercat with batteries so being the daytona is a little bigger I think it'll weight right at 9 lbs. I think the weight makes a difference in how much it would torque roll.....

It's almost like your building my boat. Lol. Only thing I have different is the esc. I'll be watching this build to see what you can get out of it!!

I thought about you yesterday when i started on it. I was hoping youd see the thread and follow it. This boat will be my "testbed" and because of the motor mount i'm using it will fit may different motors including lehner 22 series.

I do really like that mount and carbon cloth you using. Let me know how you like it and if it gives you enough adjustment and I'll go ahead and place one of order. Also, when you get a chance can you send me a link to a proper replacement ceramic bearing for the 1521. Figure before I have you start building and testing my equipment I might as well have it all in good order. Thanks!

you might as well get the mount....i assembled two of them last night and i really like them. I need you to look at the front of your motor and see if yours has a bigger bearing in the front than the back. if it does, they dont make that beaering in ceramic. I had to convert to the smaller bearing front cap on mine.

Alright I'll look at it tomorrow when I get back home. Is that mount from kintec?
