        it would look best designed like and open cockpit boat because the race fairing is already on the deck (it's old school). Trying to have a closed canopy of any kind will look awkward.
        The Manx has been sitting dormant, but I think I finally have my motivation back. I hope to see it float soon.

            maybe a couple of scale drivers like they do for the cracker box boats and scale open hydros.

            the only way to do a canopy on that hull would be to cut the fairing off the deck.

                Up date....
                I have since laid a layer of 4 oz cloth down the center of the rails and dorfmed a fillet to speak along the inside of the rails at the deck...Came ou great... I have also test mounted the rudder and servo and made the link for that. I have cut and bent a stuffing tube but have not installed it yet due to the fact the coupler I made for set up was not true enough...Jeff Wohlt will be helping me with that... Thanks Jeff!:yeah: I cant wait to get the coupler then I can set the stuffing tube... Today I cut and bent the water pick up tubes 2 for this build... I am useing 5/32 brass tubeing bent to about 170 degrees not quite a full u turn. I then cut 2 1/8 in holes in the hull and got the tubes placed where I wanted them. I then c/a tacked them in place...After that I taped all around them on the outside of the hull for flowage control...Gravity will alays win. I then flowed in some epoxy to fill in and around the tubes on the inside of the hull. I will tend to the outside of the hull later..

                More pics and details later today as some work is still in progress

                  I had Some issues with the esc mount at first, then i decided I could use less material(less weight) if I simply made the whole thing as a clap style mount. When I was finshed I was able to have a 1/2 of travel on the mounts and it could be easily removed. I have also removed the tape on the pick up tubes and once cure will shape them down to a far less drag issue..

                    I have since finished the water cooling intakes.. When I cut the remaining ube from the hull botton I actually cut the tubes at a slight angle ,getting thinner toards the front. This left a bit of a scoop for the pick ups.. I them built up around the tubes and continued the level all the way to the transome. This leaves a crisp trailing edge to the water cooling. Jeff Wohlt Also came thru with a perfect fitting coupler which allowed me to set the stuffing tube....Thanks Jeff awesome work..

                    Next will be working on getting things situated and more permenently mounted. I will also be working on attaching the watercooling to the cooling mounts.

                      The hull

                      Hey;
                      My eyes are getting old, so I may be seeing things, but, is that hull as wavy as it looks in those photos?
                      May I ask why the hull bottom water pickups ? That has to be a drag, it can't be good. I understand you can't see them, but.
                      When I was seriously racing, 10 years ago, theory was a water pickup behind the prop was in water just thrown by the prop and so, no drag. Rudder pickups have been around for ages, someone as talented with metal as you obviously are, could do that, one would guess.
                      check out the post on my build

                        I am in the process of trueing the bottom of the hull. At this time I am working on the strakes there were some bullbles i popped and are filling. I have not block sanded the whole hull yet. The flat areas will be last. As far as drag The tubes stick up less than 1/16 of and inch. The actual protruding area is the opening of the tube, which has been filled all around and built up to level and to the transome. The drag would be minimal I think. I like the clean look of no exterior hoses. I have done a few water pick up rudders and may have used one but I decided to go with 2 pickups.. Yes the make dual pick ups but I just chose this way??... As far as raceing, well a kb 45 just wont compete next a neu...Which is what the guys in my club use... Maybe next season she will have her chance, but for now it is a fun boat..

                        P.S. If you are referring to the tubes in the 1st set of picks yes those would add alot more drag. The tubes were filed down to almost flush with an agle from the trailing part of the tube all the way to the front. The remaining material left on the hull is about .040 from the hull. Hope that made sense...
