I'm stoked and got tons done on this boat!!! I put the strakes on and blended them into the steps and 2 coats of epoxy put on and sanded for paint and This morning I was at one of my best friends shop and we made a motor mount and its perfect. this guy has more boats than anybody else and been in the hobby forever and has a machine shop in his garage its so cool!!! I'm in the candy store and this guy loves to pass it on and I of course feed on that! Kinda addictive. When I get where he is I'll do it too!

I'm going to insert those speed nuts into the wood at the correct locations and then seal the wood and secure in place with 30 min epoxy and the whole thing will look like the last photo, just a mock up nothing glued or drilled yet.Last edited by high-tech; 06-22-2014, 08:11 AM.Keith Geusic #677 NAMBA District 19 Seaducer Gas MONO, Aquacraft Revolt Fe30, 30in Max Cat scratch BuiltComment

I don't know to cry or laugh: Cry because to the day I die I will never have this ability, laugh because I feel the joy for you! Man, I really admire that talent and workmanship, good luck and I can't wait to see your boat run!
Don't know how I missed this fantastic build thread!Too many boats, not enough time...Comment

Well I'm at a standstill until the rudder gets here, I ordered it from OSE of course. I was told by my local clubs president that the offset rudder is not all what it's cracked up to be and that I would be better off with a conventional standard rudder and bracket. I have an Airtronics high torque ball bearing micro servo should be fine for this build. Its light, reliable, and a little smaller than standard 40mm servos.Keith Geusic #677 NAMBA District 19 Seaducer Gas MONO, Aquacraft Revolt Fe30, 30in Max Cat scratch BuiltComment

Karl has three cats right now among 18 boats total, he's been building since mid 20's and he is now 68 and still putting boats together for other people. What was said to me about the offset rudders was only his observation of others trying the offset rudders and eventually taking it off and going with a conventional rudder and bracket beside the strut, I think we only got one strudder in the club. Also I should explain that these are big gas boats with more weight and vibration than the electrics. I run both gas and electric. By the way I gotta say something about the hundreds of boats running well... I'm not building a boat to run well, I'm building because I want a boat that runs better than well!!! I want it to be the very best that it can be and hopefully one of the best. If I wanted a well running boat I would have simply bought a RTR boat... Please don't think I'm an egotistical jerk that thinks he knows everything there is. I'm not that at all I'm a beginner in this great hobby and I can't seem to get enough and thanks for your input!I wonder how many cats he's actually built and run; there are hundreds of boats running well with the offset rudder. On most single-motor hulls the offset rudder simply works better at speed; keeping it out of the aerated water behind the prop aids in directional stability. OTOH if you want maximum steerability at low speeds, then the in-line rudder is definately the way to go. The boat will run either way.

If your planning on running electric and want to go real fast with the best controll offset rudder is the way to go. Just look at any of the single motor saw cats. They all run offset rudders for a reason and they run very well. I guess I should say they run the best and the fastest. Not to many guys running inline rudders unless they are set back really far. It's been proven that offset and going fast is the way to go. A gas boat setup is a completely different animal.
Once you get into the higher speeds, say 80 mph plus the offset rudder really starts to shine, the handling just isn't there running inline at those speeds. This is just an observation on my point and from talking to the guys that go real fast. They all run offset rudders, they all have really fast boats.Comment

Dangerously close to getting wet
I've got her almost ready to get wet!!!
I need to make some battery trays and do the water lines, and mount the receiver in front of the rudder servo project done!Keith Geusic #677 NAMBA District 19 Seaducer Gas MONO, Aquacraft Revolt Fe30, 30in Max Cat scratch BuiltComment
