The FE30 hardware was the inspiration for this, actually. True, it doesn't have kick-up, but I still think it's top notch!

Ray - I started from channel stock. HOWEVER, the extrusions are NOT flat! I had to square up all faces with a fly cutter first. Then, I milled the center cavity, followed by mount holes.

The FE30 hull won't break. I've constantly tested this as a result of my truly bad piloting skills. The hardware does have a "default" safety* - the rudder tears out the pivot pin at the bushing point

Pictured is one that had that happen. Tyler re-machined it shorter so I could re-use it

*Actually this happened when I qualified for and was awarded the coveted "2 for 1 Carnage Special" Award when, during a P-Sport heat Jeff Michaud borrowed, ran, and flipped my P-Sport on the back straight and my pit spotter's mind was off for a romp in a parallel universe and I nailed my P-Sport at full chat with My P-Ltd FE30 , ripping out the rudder and parting the gelcoat of the P-Sport, taking out TWO of my own boats in a SINGLE heat (apologies for going off topic)

Is that a 10mm brass rod that your seal slips over? Just curious, as I just ordered a few from tower for that purpose. Thx.

It is a 3/8" brass tube you can find at most hobby or hardware store with Grimracer rubber boot. I believe the Speedmaster rudder bracket has 3/8" hole drilled to match if i wanted to mount tube outside of transom. I cut brass tube on one end using tubing cutter, this method rolled end inward so that boot will slip on easily.

Where did you find your trick rubber boot? I have seen these used, but do not know where to purchase.

The boot in the picture in post #33 isn't the boot I've been using. I use these - fit nicely on 3/8" brass tube. I don't like posting links to other vendors out of my loyalty to OSE so I kint say who has them - also it would be a towering error in etiquette

BTW the hole in the Spd rudder foot is a few thou' under 3/8" (or the tube is a few thou' over) so a quick ream job with a 3/8" bit and the brass 3/8" tube then makes it through/fits - at least that's been my experience

Tony, Those boots are the same ones i use. These will slip on and fit snug over 10mm or 3/8 brass tubing.

Off the top of my head i was thinking the Speedmaster was a slip fit using 3/8 tubing, but i was not sure. You are correct Tony.

The little plastic pcs in the kit are 10mm in diameter. There is a lip/flange on them. I wonder if the original intention was for the lip/flange to seal on the boot??? Moot point since we are all just sealing on brass tubing, but I'd still like to know.

I first ran into this boot when I was building TS-2's ; they're radio box seals. Still current for TS-3's and Vegas Dueces. I'm pretty sure the flanged end is to give a bigger adhering surface, not to retain the boot. I use my favorite sticky-goo to secure the boot on to the brass tube + a zip tie.

That boot and collar are what come stock on the Revolt. The collar is glued into the hull much like how we use the brass tubes. The flange looks like it would help hold the boot in place but there really wasn't enough of the collar sticking out of the boat to get a proper grip with a tie wrap. I ended up just using a few drops of CA glue. ........similar to gluing tires onto rims of RC trucks.
