Wont need it for str8 runs, the CR props will oppose each other thus no prop steer !
Will need a fin for oval racing, though.. to hold in corners..

However, full size have turn fins for str8 line stability. see below

        thanks to photographer (name?).
I might be wrong Doc but I think I can remember Randy (BBY) saying on one of his posts that he puts very small fins on some of his SAW boats. The fins on the boat above are small in comparison to what we use on our toys.

Dont be so modest Paddy.. what you've forgotten aint worth remembering ( except perhaps those 2 blondes from Davenport, '79 .... ? )

No details for those Ive researched identify the 'finlets' , however Im willing to listen to cognizant reasoning for their inclusion.

Happy New Year's eve old chum ! .. and to all you watchers and lurkers too !

Rooster tail in the other lane looks better tho! Ohhhh yeahhhh!! SWEEEEEEEEET...... The spirit, bluebird etc had small "stabiliser" blades/fins running along the inside of both sponsons.I think bluebirds were almost the full length of the sponson. They also kept spray/wash out of the tunnel and more than likely increased sponsons hydrodynamic lift I tried a few types on one of my early riggers (also had a normal fin on one side) and it seemed to work well. Still cornered ok too. Wasnt really doing warp 9 like yours will tho.... crazy ideas and experiments sometimes turn into RACEWINNERS!!!. Follow that gut feeling my friend.... :-)
              Im confused..... no...wait...mabee im not?

I started a couple of boats in 1/6 scale, the hydro is 38 inches and the Runner botttom or Flatty is 36 inches. I have the same dummy motor for them. I do put a little turn fin on the inside rear of the starboard sponson. On the 1/10 scale hydro it is about 3/8 X 3/8 of an inch in size.

                  Thanks, Randy

                  You 'started' to build at 1/6 . and have 1/10 .. ? .. were these run ?
Q: was the micro turn fin for aesthetics or practical application ?
What improvement did it offer ?

This build is very interesting. Unique. If the hull is able to handle that power... Watch out!! Should be a rocket, W!

                      Thx Rummy.
Just stripped hull of everything strippable.
Preparing for surface prep then paint. . Very little to do, considering hull was made on a 42'c day (118f) it has a nice cure.
No $1400 paint jobs here ! will fire up the compressor and apply a few ice whites, followed by a couple clears to hold the decals.
Ditto the cowl when it arrives.

There,s a summer heatwave here. 40->42'c for the next week or more. . . . ideal for paint cure !

looking cool Doc, I crew chiefed, a Pro mod boat for several years. Was so of the most exciting racing I have done. The most laid back to, when I first starting tuning boats, Being a Pro Mod car crew chief I found myself wandering around with noting to do. Boats are so unlike the cars, Tear em down rebuild em, run and do it allover again. Boats throw a tune in her run it, drink a beer. With the car I went everywhere the car went, the starting line, the pass, the finishline, the pits<lots of time in the pits. Boats, Pits, launch, wave good buy, ramp, pits, have a beer!!

The fin helps keep the boat going stright, It also helps at slow speeds for turning. With out it.... it is like a fish with out fins on the forward 75% of it body. I have ran the 1/10 Hydro's a lot. The runner bottoms a little and more to come..... all just for fun.

I like to have rear sponsonets on the drag hydros too make the boat much more stable launching.
