Make sure the hatch will fit over the motor. I have my motor cooling lines lower because the hatch wasn't high enough.

I swear it is a Solinger drive/rudder system.....

Maybe spicedcrab can chime in....!!
Edit.....Never mind, I was looking at OJ racers hull. Not Spicedcrabs! Both are great looking builds anyhow!Last edited by westbeach; 05-14-2008, 09:19 PM.HPR115 x2 ,Dark Horse Shovel, Delta Force CyberStorm, Delta Force Sniper 23-RTR:Comment

hi all, i just got off work.
mine is speedmaster hardware, oj racer has a shot of his boat on post #25 (that is solinger) both brands are nice hardware.
i like when others post their pics and setups also, it helps everyone decide what kind of setup is good for them, and gives everyone more choices to look at.
i managed to lightly sand the strut, stuffing tube, rudder, bracket, and pushrod with 300 grit, and then clearcoat it with dupli-color engine enamel while i was at work today.
here are some more pics...........Comment

i used 3M marine sealant 5200 on the screws and also put a small nylon washer on each screw to make up for the thickness of the rubber boot that is sandwiched between the alum bracket and the hull. (the hole in the speedmaster bracket is perfect for the Bru Line pushrod seal that they sell at OSE.) i also put a drop of 5200 sealant on the pushrod were it goes through boot.

sorry to take so long to reply, been working really long hours at work.
i ran the boat with items that i already have from other projects, and it was not a good setup.
i used a feigao 6L, two thunderpower extreme 2200 3 cell lipos parallel and a mamba max truck esc. this made a very light setup and i wanted to see if the the light weight helped make up for the hot motor wind for short runs. it was too hot, the motor got hot, the esc got hot and the lipos got hot, luckily i made a very short run when i checked the temps and found out that it would never work with this setup. what i did notice however during the test was this boat acted so much different being lighter and also having the cog a little farther back because of the lighter lipo's up front on this boat. it was not very stable at all, wanted to lift and rock a lot and never seems to settle in and stabilize. it was a handful the whole time and i was only going about 40 at the most maybe not even that. the other boat was extremely stable at any speed that i would give it. the other difference i noticed was the turning this boat would turn twice as sharp, i liked the turning but did not like being unstable on the straight. my best guess is that the cog is the biggest factor about the stability difference between the two boats and also the weight.
my plans of correcting the handling will be getting the cog about 1 1/2 inches behind the sponson. to be able to do this i need more weight up front (as far as i can get it) i will be putting two thunder power 3300 extreme 3-cells up in the sponsons, wired in series. i am also installing a feigao 9XL motor and a hydra 120 esc. i just got done weighing the differences and these changes are adding 1 pound and 1 ounce to the boat, and all of it up front. by trial fitting the parts laying there it looks like my cog is ending up right were i want it.Comment

i pulled out the 6L and put the 9XL in its place. i also made a support for the front of the motor to make it more secure. i added an external power wire so i can turn it on or off with the hatch taped in place. i decided to use a hydra 240 instead of the hydra 120. i have a separate bec and i am running two 3300 thunder power extreme v2 lipo's wired in series for a total of 6s.Comment

i now have the motor support installed and i added velcro to hold the esc and bec in place. i cut little holes out of the velcro right were it bends so that the epoxy goes through and has a more secure hold. i then added a thin piece of foam under the esc and secured all the wiring and esc neatly in the velcro, everything is very secure now, and also easy to get out if need be also.Comment
