Drifter S - Purpose built for P-Ltd. Offshore SAWS

I was lucky enough to score a bare hull/hardware beauty from Chilli My first Drifter S set the 2006 LSO record at 34.xxx with a brushed 700 & NIMH's. Had to give it a try with brushless/lipo this year. Brian took the record at 62.xx this last SAWS but (with his prop) I had a fast pass of 63.114 mph however I couldn't stay on the water on the windy uphill run. Next year !!

Another fine mess I've gotten myself into. Still kicking myself for not making the "Witching Hour" passes. Just WAITING for the next time to give it another try !

BTW Darin, thanks for sharpening my rudder . The cut on my thumb is healing nicely

LOL great minds! I just picked up one of these last night!
Now wondering what to do with it, another p-spec or try twins for the first time.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

            Mark,

These are terrific fun runners and air out beautifully at top speed. Twins would be really cool-I haven't gone there myself because my big mitts couldn't work inside the small confines of the hull and the complexity scares me away some ( I confuse easily)

I've been having a conversation with Video 2000 about the "hip wiggle" phenomenon - a center rudder will do that especially on acceleration but turns way better than an offset rudder which has less wiggle. I'm thinking of going to a dual rudder setup which should turn really well and minimize the dance. There'd be a small penalty in extra drag but could be well worth the handling improvement. Of course with twins there should likely be no hip wiggle with a single center rudder.

My original Drifter S (after setting the LSO SAW record in 2006 with a brushed motor ) ran a Feigao 8XL and 4S2P 4000 batt's and did @ 60mph with an X642 and decent (3-4 min.) runtime. The wire drive in my current boat is nice; the first boat has (and still has) some bad resonance with the flex.

Enjoy & keep us posted !

            Tony

I got a pair of stingers, flex cables stepped down to 1/8 shafts R & L wind and a speedmaster rudder in the deal plus all the stuff I have collected so I really don't know what I'm going to do at this point. The pond will be turning solid soon so I doubt it will see water this year so I have plenty of time to let it ferment.
