Yup! I'm getting low 50's from the leopard 5692(1340kv) on 6s and an X452.

Heres another vid from youtube of a guy with a similar setup....

I sold mine to keithbradley. He posted up some vids a while back. I touched 70 mph with that boat. She was bad ass!

Rums build inspired mine. Still saving my pennies for a swordfish 240 so I can prop up!

Nice vid Scott..................i remember seeing that one before with the sound bouncing off the hillsides......sounds mean!

                2 questions:

Do you think since mine is a 1580kv and a bit smaller motor that i should use an x445........447...?

Is my ESC adequate based on the smaller props i mentioned? Im not going for huge all out speed or SAW runs, just fun/friendly racing, so i was thinking a bit smaller prop, keep things cool and amp draw down a bit.

The 1717 has plenty of power to spin a big prop. However @ 35000 unloaded rpms a big prop is not a good idea. I think your in the ballpark starting with the 45mm prop. Thats probably barely enough diameter to get this big heavy hull on plane, but I know guys have used them with luck. Its a good starting point. I'm thinkin' that you'll end up with a cool reliable setup and a prop in the 47-48mm range. Ideally I think that motor will run better on 5s, with the 452. I'm looking forward to seeing it run!

I cant say enough good things about the t-180. It has a huge 360 amp burst rate, and I've been really happy with mine. Every esc has its limitations, but I think the t-180 might be slightly under rated.

I own several T180's and have been very pleased with them as well. I run one with a Neu 1527 1y in my 45" Dumas and have had zero issues with it. I have heard the same thing about the conservative rating, that they are more like a 200 amper. In fact, I ran across this from G-freak(dont know much about them) "ACTUAL FACTORY SPECS ARE 180A CONTINUOUS AND 360A PEAK BUT WE RATE THEM REALISTICALLY, BASED ON OUR EXTENSIVE TESTING, AT 200A CONT."

                      Thanks, i'll throw an x445 on first................got a 447 as well

boy did mine get on plane with a x445... even weighed down with 10s2p.... was a absolute rocket, and no question with the small prop she carved.... handles very much like the smaller df's only BIGGER :)

I know I didn't think the x445 was enough diameter at first... but I spun her with some real rpms... mine (now brads) has a ball bearing strut too..!
