    Bye-Bye DF 33 ; Hello Cyberstorm 32 !!

It was time. The good ole' DF 33 (clone) served me well for years. Briefly held the NAMBA P-Mono & P-Offshore 2-Lap record [until Darin & Tyler came along ]. Raced, crashed, bondo-ed, & even won a P-Mono heat at the 2008 Nat's. But she had developed a habit of stuffing[and disappearing ] in racewater & gasserwater where I play. Steven had a beautiful red one in stock so , with the idea in mind of simply transferring the guts from the DF to the Cyberstorm, I got started. Fifty hours later { making rails & getting them epoxied in place with the motor coupler/flexshaft in perfect alignment took the most time.} Here's some pix : [spread over a few posts.] [ bagged the boat to eliminate epoxy fingerprints !]

        and more

Rear hardware with my home-made " no-bendum" rudder bracket. Slick matching motor mount alignment brace in tinted plastic. Wires & hoses routed out of sight. Might add some more graphics but the gorgeous lines of this hull speak for themselves. Should get wet in a day or two-my expectations are, with more deadrise in the bow than the DF33 she'll stay on top of the H2O !!

Thanks Steven. If you notice, there's a second anchor point for the hold-down post if I need to shift the batt's forward to play with the cg.

Maybe I can get some sleep now !!

            Oh yeah baby!

Good to see you got her all together Tony. I'll got out on a limb and say she will probably run much more consistently than your DF33 copy.

We'll see you there Tony. Got to prepare my boats tonight and tomorrow to start testing on Friday.

Tony... I like your steering servo mounting!

                Nice boat!

You MIGHT find out that it'll handle better if you get the prop closer to the transom. We shorten our Speedmaster struts up until the thinner portion is only about 1/2" or so beyond the step up.

Thanks, Darin. I remember a few SAW's ago both Brian and Ray mentioned this. I have a shortened one already waiting if I need it.

Getting her dialed in. Added hatch retention goodies - tab in front and captured nuts [ Hey Beavis-he said captured nuts huh huh !] in back with VS-1 cowl fastener goodies. Eliminates need for tape to retain hatch in case of ...., all tape has to do now is keep out water.

Vid of trial run ( had the darn dual rate way up from previous FE 30 run so my driving was a little squirrely.) Deeper Vee and no ride pad of Cyberstorm 32 accounts for some minor chine wobble but rough water handling is way better than DF 33 because of greater bow deadrise. ( Cybers and Snipers do this but it never gets out of control; just rolls on through.)

Looking good Tony! I think you better just use this as your race hatch now with all the work you've put into it. First the windshield now the cowl locks!

Some pictures with decals. Ran some trial runs today in gasser water. Just as I anticipated, she handles the chop really great with a little wiggle of the hips, but blasts right on through. My DF 33 would've stuffed ! [oops-see next post for pix]
