It's all good. Jeff can give me all the *!***!***!***!** he wants.... I like his wire drives.

He does have a point though. I could just be passing gas on the keyboard.

Here's a shot of the GPS after today's run. She's running great on 4s! Think there's 1-2 mph more to be had by using smaller battery packs though. Still using two of the 4s 40c 5k 600+ gram packs.

          Lookey what I found!

It's actually an RC Sail boat course. The only thing it's missing is... SHADE!
          It's about a 20 minute drive though.

Some tweeking and better run today. I had the video cam on, but think I caught a turtle. It chunked the prop and broke the wire drive... did some somersaults and landed upside down... of course with the cam in the water.

It's running well though. Might break 60 with a 442. or burn up.

Probably best to stick with the lower RPM 45-48mph 3s setup and just have fun with it...

Well I tried the 2600kv today, started off okay did a couple of circuits & checked temps which seemed ok.

Did a few more and it stopped, retrieved and could smell that great odour as soon as I took the hatch off. Both motor & esc rather warm. I thought it was the ecs until I took it home & ripped the heatshrink off nothing burnt. Plugged stock motor in & everything working.

Then smelt the motor...pulled it out & suspect a bearing let go I can move the shaft in & out about 5mm.

Now put the stock 1520kv motor back in and taped the ecs back up.

                    Cheers

Ok, I pulled out the old Apparition hull and decided it was time for an overhaul. Sold the CC/Neu 2650 in the Swap Shop and gutted the hull. Started by grinding off all the epoxy spots etc. Then coated it with Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy.

While kicking around ideas of what to install in the hull, I remembered an 80-HV ESC that I had and a 1400Kv outrunner I bought as a spare.

I did some quick calculations, on 3s I was putting out less than 2000watts (180amps) and on 4s less than 2500watts and 39k RPM. On 8s, 80 amps is approx 2300 watts and 41k RPM, so I'm in the ball park for a high RPM 8s setup. Starting with an x440 prop. Using a wire drive and a nice set of bushings should help support the high RPM setup. Or... it'll snap on the way out and that'll be the end of it. I have an 880kv motor on stand by, but don't have a good 10s setup, so going to give 8s a whirl. I know it'll be close, so wish me luck!

I added a nice big 4700uF cap, hope it helps.

OK, so every calculation I come up with in this scenario to hit 60mph = fire/melt/fry

So, I ordered a some 60v caps and am going to put the 880kv motor in and run 10/12s.

That gives me about 3000 watts on 10s and 3500 watts on 12s, which is enough to hit my 65mph goal with an 80 amp ESC.

                          OK, here it goes!

I did a bunch of random shoot from the hip calculations and came up with this.

The 80HV is rated at 80amps and 12s.
The T600 is rated at ~40k+ RPM (1400kv/8s)

                          80 amps at 12s = ~3500 watts (max)
                          880kv @ 12s = ~39k RPM

So... I wired it up. And... It bench tests OK.

                          I used to run the 2650Kv w/440 prop ~58mph/38krpm on 4s ~2200 watts. (4s4p)

So, I'm thinking x440, 880kv, 12s = 60+ mph. But who knows. We'll see what the GPS says. If all works OK, I have an x442 prop ready to go.

I might just shoot for 70mph... if I can keep it from catching on fire.

Holy Moly! This thing is a ROCKET!

BUT way tooooooo hot. Just a few short passes and the motor was up at 160F ESC was 135F.

It hit 62, but never did hold it wide open, it kept jumping out of the water! Going to make a an adjustment to the strut and drop the prop down to a 38mm and see what happens. If I can keep this thing stable...

Heh, found out the heat was from incorrect motor timing. Resolved it and the motor comes back in the 135 - 140 range now. Can't get the boat to stabilize with all the lipo weight though... keeps bouncing around.

Just a heads up, this one is going up for sale. Hull/hardware and ESC/Motor separately. I'll try to list it today or tomorrow.

I thought heat isn't a factor with outrunners. Most are able to handle 200*F no problem. I read the scorpions can handle 350*F
