First use a Graupner K42, set tne strut at 0°, control the height of the strut, turn the prop with your hand to ensure all parts are free.
When you' ve got the best result with K42 prop and when COG is fixed you can mount a X442 or a X642 or a M445
Forget the Octura x440/3 with your 4S setup

      Yep. K42. Check.

Houston, we have a problem. The strut bushing was apparently damaged and the hard prop shaft wiggles. I can move the prop about a full 1.5 mm and feel the gap in the bushings. This can't be good. High RPM doesn't like loose shafts. I'm sure all of this goes back to when I originally broke the hard prop shaft and the prop on a rock.

So, time to replace the strut. I'll give it a break and get the ball bearing setup from Jeff. That way I can get the wire drive setup and running as well.

Parts on the way. I'm sure a nice in tolerance strut bearing will improve the situation. =)

What kind of strut are you waiting for?

An Octura with 3/16" shaft and 4mm => 3/16 collet can be work fine

                Dis one: http://www.rcraceboat.com/Storestrut.html

The stock 4mm bushing was presumably trashed with the cable when the prop hit a rock and bent the prop shaft (see earlier in this thread).

I could just replace the stock 4mm bushing and just might, to keep it as a spare.

I might send you an even better strut. Those 4mm are very light. Good for smaller props and up to 4S but that is pushing it.

I have one stronger with 4mm bearings

                    Jeff, you're the man with the plan. Let's do this;

I'll need two setups; Coupler, Wire Drive, Brass Tube & Strut (3/16 is OK as my final props are 3/16)

                    1. Apparition, 5mm motor shaft 1515 Neu/Castle
                    2. Genesis, 8mm motor shaft 1521 Neu

Let me know what parts I need vs, what I've just ordered and well get this done right. That rocks!

We can do that. I am saying you can stay with the 4mm strut but I have a stronger one. If oyu go with the larger 3/16" strut I make then your mount and all has to change as it is much bigger...2nd one down on the strut page.

The step up shaft works good and there are a bunch out there. It is easy to just add a brass bushing to shim it up to 3/16" shaft.

We can talk and I will make sure your setup is one to hold up under anything you want to throw at it...afterall...we all want overkill at times ...LOL

                      Those NEUS are the ticket!

I'd much rather stay metric if at all possible to maintain continuity. The stronger 4mm strut sounds like the way to go. Replacing the least amount of parts is good. =)

Poor turtle! I hit him hard, flipped the boat, cartwheeled and landed with a splash!

Right side up and just enough prop left to limp it to shore.

Good thing I'm using cheap props! (PS this $2 cheapie held up on 4s)

Fortunately I had ordered an extra drive tube, so had one ready to glue in. Photo of the strut at zero angle. The zip tie is for spacing while installing the new tube. I shortened the shaft on the motor by 5mm to allow more tube in the hull and a higher water line.

Did it break the stuffing tube like that?

Yep. That's exactly how it came out of the water!

Must have been a stress point created right there from my previous rock incident for it to tear apart like that!
