Yep. But, if I can get it to run cooler, I'm a bit happier.
The timing thing helped performance too. It added a bit of kick and a few more mph.

Had some fun with this guy. It's like "ole trusty".

Always get a good run in the Apparition.

It's setup pretty cool. I've been running it in the 40's on 8s and that HV ESC is a workhorse. =)

It's good for about 8 minutes of runtime.

So I bent a nice 442 on a turtle and had a 4mm x 43mm green plastic prop that I popped on. I managed to get 13 minutes of run time at 39mph. It was like the energizer bunny.

Next I'm going to try 9s, 3 x 3s in series. This HV stuff is pretty cool.

Yeah, wow, that sucks coming in with a chunked up prop and bent shaft.

It's either freshwater and turtles/fountains or salt water and drifting currents.

I think u may have the record for damaged props and rudders. Or maybe the other guys just don't post about it...

Just a follow up, the apparition has been running on 6s, 8s, and 12s using the 4030 outrunner and loving it.

I broke a wire drive this weekend, basically because I've run it like mad this past year and haven't done ANY maintenance on it at all. Just wanted to see how long it would last and I'd say about 20-25 runs before it finally snapped. It was rusted where it snapped, so perhaps preventable... Anyway, just wanted to see the limits of the materials.

OK, new bushings on the rudder mounts, new boot and did an electronics overhaul. Set the strut level and zero angle, straight with the hull.

                        The new setup is:
                        3730/1580kv outrunner
200a ESC w/External BEC and big cap
10 Ohm resistor for spark suppression (lifesavers!)
                        6mm bullets

I made my own wire drive and used the set screw type prop nut so I didn't have to thread the prop shaft.

I mounted the ESC caps to catch the wind off of the outrunner, should help keep it cool.

Powering it with Blue Lipo 6s1p 25c 5000 mah (two 3s in series) batts that have been puffed, over used, abused and rebalanced, ready to play.

I have a new prop I found, it's a two blade 44mm prop marked 443. Not sure how that works, but looks interesting. Might be a good step before an m445 or m447. Anyway it's balanced and ready to go...

Curious to see what kind of results this setup will achieve. 30-40k rpm range on a full charge and fecalc says about 120 amps...

The boat ran great... until a torn water hose flooded the hull and shorted the ESC. Yuck.

So... I decided to overhaul it.... again!

I gutted the hull and epoxy coated the interior black. Added some flotation to the hatch and to the nose of the hull to help solidify it. The blue window expanding foam works great, it expands, but not too much and won't bow the hull.

I was going to wire up another Suppo, but am really tired of fiddling with them, so I installed a Seaking 180 ESC.

After looking at how nice the interior came out, I decided to sand and re-finish the exterior and give it some sparkle. he he. I also did some 150 grit scuffing as the under hull was clear coated from the factory.

Unfortunately I didn't get any photos before I painted the exterior, so will have to wait for interior photos.

I feel like I'm in an episode of this old boat. This Gen I Apparition has been through hell in the past year. It's hit a Manatee pole, been dunked in the Atlantic ocean, buzzed around the gulf in Tampa, ripped to nearly 70mph with a Castle motor and been the experimental hull for at least 6 different ESC/Motor combinations... including a 12s experiment that resulted in some very long runtime and some very high speeds. It smacked at least a dozen turtles and even locked itself on another boats rudder... Flipped, tumbled and drifted for hours on several occasions...

Crazy, the seams are still perfect and the epoxy repairs are still holding up... Time for another round!

                              Some interior photos;

The coating is Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy and the flotation is Great Stuff expanding foam, blue.

Surprisingly the original wood ESC and Servo mounts are still in use. I sealed them with poly a while back and then epoxied the servo in place almost a year ago.

I have this foam sprayed in 5 different hulls right now. I sometimes set the hull under a heat lamp to elevate the temp to about 120F to help it cure faster. Some say do it in layers, but I usually just spray in what I want to let it cook. =)

If it over expands, I just cut off the extras.
