School me on 55" Twin Cats

If I'm going to be putting all this money into a new boat, I might as well go big.

So, please school me on building a big cat and hook me up with some good reading material.
Who makes hulls? Where can I get the best deal on one already painted?
    What motor/ESC? 6s? 10s? 12s?
    What Props?
    What drive system?
    What rudder system? Single? Dual?

My initial thoughts are dual 240 ESCs, 2200kv Neus, 6s4p in a Blackjack 55 hull. Double rudder & counter rotating props.

I'm thinking a conservative goal of 65 MPH is plenty for what I'm doing with it. 20+ minutes of run time.

I have no interest in racing, just having some fun on the inner coastal waterways... Should be a straight forward build.

Maybe even hook it up to my Kayak and have it tow me around a bit.

The BJ 55 hull is a total terd. Exceptionally bad handling. 20 plus minutes of run time is not realistic by any means.

That's good to know. It's nice looking in the 3" photos on the computer screen though. =)

I like the MHZ, but realistically I am limiting my budget to a grand. Since I already have ESC's, motors, radio, receiver, servo(s), 4s/6s packs & misc wiring/connectors... I think that's reasonably possible.

Any feedback on the Arrow Sharks? Like the 53" fighter cat?

If your neu's are 1515's you'll need a hull more in the 40" range. 6s will be too hot for those motors. 4s would be very reliable with pretty decent run times. 5s for all out speed. I run 2 of those motors on 5s1p each in a 34" cat.

Wow! Guess my thinking was a bit on the shy side. The 1515's can run a 1/8th car to 80mph, surprising two of them aren't enough for a big hull. Guess I need to step up the power a bit then... This is when it get's expensive...

Are we talking 2200 series? Maybe a single ESC/Motor setup?

Yeah, definitely 4s MAYBE 5s on those motors, and that's still lot of rpm.

If you've never built a boat before i'd suggest using some of that grand to do a smaller vessel first to get your feet wet. You don't want to make all the mistakes a first time builder does on a big hull with a lot of money in it. Try this hull with a cheap setup:

Buying an off-brand hull is probably not a great idea because you never know how it's going to handle until you put all your stuff in it and run it. At that point, there's no returning it.
MHZ makes some of the coolest cats out there.

Aeromarine also makes some ridiculously nice pieces, the sprint cat being arguably the best handling large cat around.

Might be a bit of an ambitious for your first FE boat....think smaller and learn first.

Definitely get that little mono from eBay and do a build with that to
                        A. See if you really do like boats
                        B. Learn what and what not to do on an FE build.
You can do one of those boats for under $300.

Yep. Very ambitious. That's kind of my MO.

I'm thinking there should be enough knowledge here (or available) to get a good base configuration going.

I already have two brushless C1 cats and a few deep v's as well as a mini cat. Time to go bigger.

I'm not racing it or pushing any limits, so should be a straight forward kinda build.

bad handling. Similar to the blackjack 55. Also too big for your motors.
