    Resistors

Received an email from Joe Ford , Castle Creation.

To solder any thing to the controller voids the warranty.

Well that's a risk i'm willing to take with this ESC because i will be pushing it to its limits.

The right size resistor to use is the 1 ohm 5w type as Disar pointed out
    in an early thread.

He also recommended that i use the same size capacitor that are on the ESC already.

I will be using the bigger capacitors on this project.

They also have a warning in there user manuals that use of timing advance setting 4 "Max power. Most smoke. No warranty"

It seems like a educated change that has led you to believe that a change in caps is s good idea so like the build pace test the electronic setup slow and steady and hopefully a good result in the end..

Bonewar, which strut and rudder are you going to use? What's the rudder length?

        Thanks

          Rudder strut

          DISAR,

The strut i will be using is a Jeff Wohlt special OD 10mm bearings , ID 6mm , stub shaft silver soldered to flex cable.
          With a modified toysports rudder.
The rudders length is 120mm width 20mm.

Jeff is making me the strut right now.

Here are a few pictures of the strut rudder set up.
The first 2 pic's are the original idea.
The 3rd pic is the latest idea.
The strut in the pictures is a speed master strut just to show you my idea.
          More on that soon.

I've been reading a thread on windscreen shrouds buy Xcesive8 .
          http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...ad.php?t=13757
In the thread it mentions how to make one.
Well i had a go and it came out real nice.
          Heres where i'm up to.
          Thanks Gerwin for that tip.
Just the detail i needed for the new hatch shape.

Rick, I do not have an order for another strut. Did you want another? Your shafts should be there in the next few days.

                Canopy Shroud

                Ok,

I ended up making the shroud out of carbon fiber.
I used PVA release agent on the hatch and 1 layer of 5oz carbon,
1 layer of very light glass cloth. Epoxy resin and a days drying.
Came out real nice. Just the detail i needed for this hatch.

I've also glass in the tunnel wing assemble on the hull.

Just waiting on a few more pieces for the rudder strut set up.
Then i will finish off the back of the boat.

Heres a picture of the rough layout of the components in the hull.
Lipo's will go down in the spoonsons.
Not much room left when ever thing is in the boat.

                Hope she floats!!

Why the strudder? Wouldn't it handle the high speed much better with an offset rudder?

Well I wait for mine to get here I keep reading this Rick and I'm afraid that lay out will not work You will have to go back to the drawing board and start again when you recalculate it again you will see you have not left any room for the fire suppression system looks good and is a very educational thread. Good choice of rudder and strut. But can you build a little faster so we do not have to wait so long for up dates nice work Rick

                        Rumdog,

I like the inline rudder strut setup better for this project.
                        More of a scale look.
Also I'm trying to keep the prop close to the transom .
To help with prop torque issues.
I have a in line rudder on my Simrad cat and it handles the speed real nice.

                        Oldguy,

I'm glad you like my thread.
Gee to go back to the drawing board would take me another 4 months .

                        Update at your command !!!

                        OK,

This is where I'm up to.
I've finished the carbon bulkheads and the structural pieces in the front of the hull.
They have all been glass in.
I have started to work on the rudder strut setup.
Just waiting on a new strut to finish it up.
I've finished the detail work for the hatch.
The tunnel flap is glass in , just have to glass in the control arm
and clear coat the inside of the tunnel wings box to water prof it.
Then to the motor mount , drive shaft.

Don't you think that rudder is going to have a lot of drag at 100mph?

I'd use a thinner blade and a rooster water pickup.

                              J.M.

Mate i think the rudder will be fine.

If it becomes a problem then i will machine it thiner.

What is this rooster water pick up you talk of ?

The water intake on the rudder I'm using will be filled in.

I am using in hull water pick ups. 1 in each spoonson. 1 for the motor , 1 for the ESC.

                              Got a little done today.

Started on the transom mods and reinforcing.

Just waiting on my new strut to finish the rear end.

I was referring to a rooster tail water pickup.
