    Carbon fiber plate

I've been busy making some carbon fiber plate (1.5mm thick).

I will be using the plate for bulk heads and structural pieces inside the front of the hull.

I also need to make a box type structure for the HV240 to sit in .

2 make the plate i used epoxy resin , 2 layers of carbon and 1 layer of glass mat.

PVA plastrene as a release agent on the glass , and as you can see lots of weight.

The finished part came out real flat and shinny.

Next update - steering gear -motor mount.

IME you don't usually need a release agent in the glass, but I guess that wasn't a bad idea seeing how smooth the surface came out.

Looking forward to the speeds this one is going to hit!!!

Nice! How did you make the plate, multiple layers of carbon or you put something else between?

Just need to wax the glass several times. Wow, that is a bunch of weight!

Bonewar used two layers of carbon and a layer of glass.

I'm guessing that the carbon was around 5oz/sq yd and the glass was fairly light.

                Jeff,
I like the PVA because you just have to wash your piece in water to clean up. Leaves a very nice finish. Weight just to make sure it comes out even.

                Disar,
To make the plate i used 2 layers of 5oz carbon cloth and 1 layer of very light fiberglass. Coat the glass with PVA let dry then add resin 1 layer carbon wet in roll flat add 2nd layer of carbon wet in roll flat add 3rd layer of fiberglass wet in roll flat. put the glass over add weight and let cure for 1 day.

                J.m.
With the roller i don't use much force. I'm just real gentle with it.Also I like the PVA because of ease of youse.

                Thanks Ace028

Thanks. I thought PVA does not leave a shiny surface but yours is beautiful!

I applied the PVA with a sponge and not a brush , better to spray it on.
The end product is very shinny i can see my reflection in it.

A lot of people use PVA in molds for composite sailplane fuselages. Very shiny...

                        Hydra hv240 esc

This is where i'm up to with the hydra .

Trying to work out the best place to put the extra caps.

                        There BIG!!

The caps will be soldered in series than join to the ESC wires.
I think this will work out OK.

Been waiting on my carbon 3mm plate to be cut by the water jet man.
His first attempt was very poor.
Cost me 1/4 of the plate.
                        Fingers crossed 2nd time lucky.
And the hatch ready for primer.

                          Carbon bulkheards

I've started on the bulkheads for the front of the hull.
I also made room for the Hydra esc to fit into the space.

The front of the spoonsons will get closed cell foam for flotation and strength.
When i have done this , than i will glass it all into place ,and put the lid back on .

                          Stronger than the original!!
Going to need it with 7+hp.

Are you going to run the 1527 1.5y on 10 and 12s1p? What size prop do you think you'll be spinning?
