I built one some years ago and the stock motor was way too fast for the set up. Problem was that the mechanical speed control was jerky at best and it jitters the steering servo. Causing it to grab the disc brakes randomly. I gave up the idea of trying to keep it stock and installed an ESC and a crawler high-turn brushed motor. It runs great and the speed is more scale. Love to see how it runs for you with this set up.
