Electric cars, all manufacturers, failing crash tests.

News reported the latest casualty in the crash tests, chevy joins all the other manufacturers in what i like to think will be a huge headache for them. Distance verse battery type verse safety..........ultimately effecting our end user cost in both the vehicle and with insurance.

As we all know batteries can go boom in a bad crash. The vast majority of people live in cities and most live in condos or rental apartments, then they travel to work....most of these places do not have the capacity to supply current, amperage draw and electrical outlets, for true electrical vehicles

Sorry Rummy, but this technolgy is not proven, it is a bit like hydrogen power for vehicles that died on the vine....hybrids make sense but if you sell your car within 4 years you will lose money over a conventional vehicle. I am all for green but true electrical vehicles make with no sense with range issues and within the confines of our present elecrtical power systems. Where will all this extra demand be comming from.....wind turbines not a chance in hell, in my opinion hydro or nuclear are the only financial fiscal options today, but things may change in the future.

Well, there are EV's on the road. They are not exploding. They are also not for everyone. Not everybody has a long commute. Hybrids are B.S. If I want great mileage, I'll buy a diesel.

I like the electric idea. There are tons of people around that don't travel much each day. My wife and I are some of them. The problem is cost. They just never pay for themselves.

Rummy and Steven, I would not want a battery charging in an enclosed space as I sleep, if you have an open carport, you are subject to vandals and their pranks.

I can agree that I wouldn't want the car charging in my garage, but vandals shouldn't stop people for charging outside. If they want to vandalize, they will vandalize your petrol car or electric.

i still don't understand why they don't use lipo's and brushless motors, is the price of a big brushless really that much more than a 4 stroke engine?

You charge your cell phone in your house, right? I have heard 0 incidents with the batteries. I do agree with Steve on price. Anyone who can afford a Chevy Volt, can easily afford to put gas in it.

I'm pretty sure they've made the charging pretty foolproof.
Charging costs approx $1.50 a day, and charges in 4 hours with a 240v plug.

What is a cell phone? seriously though the batteries in true elecrical vehicles are huge and I would not buy one due to safety, cost and other reasons.

I am waiting for someone to perfect the "Motor in the hub" idea for an EV.
You put a motor in each wheel hub - 4 motors.
This design gives you:
1 All wheel drive
2 Regenerative breaking
3 Stabality control
4 low center of gravity
5 traction control

Huge advantages to 4 electric motors. one for each wheel.
