I think the difference between old skool and whats played today...
Old skook - Vocals set the rhythm. Listen to old skool songs. You pretty much had instruments that played a steady beat while the vocalist determined the melody.
Now - Instruments set the rhythm. You listen to the instruments and the vocalist has become an accompaniment. Then you have the loudness wars to contend with...

Or I could just be moody today because my car stereo kept playing Britney Spears as if it was doing it's own personal tribute. So much for the shuffle mode.

Way back then in San Diego, there were many places we could go and just hang out, or maybe engage in a little heavy petting without being harassed by the fuzz. Point Loma, Presidio Park, Mount Helix, Mission Gorge Dam, Mount Solidad, ETC.
There was hardly anyone around, so, no crowds, no locked gates, easy parking, and no curfews. Kinda makes me wonder what the kids are doing now.
