If used properly, tone controls do offer a benefit. Say for Room Acoustics, Poor recording, etc. But all too often.....
Overdone on the bass and treble or some weird enhancement the listener might purposed. Sometimes with the same result as brushing your teeth with a cheese grater.

No matter how well balanced a system may seem. I bright recording is still a bright recording and a dark recording is still dark recording. Tone controls can help in this area.

I've been down that expensive HI-FI road. The Denon sounds good enough to my ears (Especially FM radio) and without breaking the bank.

The Denon DRA-37 (35 watts per channel) also allows me to switch from a to b speakers with just the touch of a button. Compairing speakers is lots of fun.

What ever sounds best to you. That is one of the beauty's of having your own system. You can have the music your way, your time, with the people you choose. How cool is that?

Oh and thank's for that link to Steve Hoffman's. Very Very Adictive!

I think those are fostex full range drivers in cabinets he built. I think at normal volume those perform great. They are known to be driven with low powered tube amps.
