    ? on video camera

OK, started to take video's for posting, using my Sony Cybershot 5.0 camera. Wow, videos of action like a fast boat stink!

So, what are the options for taking video that is decent without spending a lot of coin? Anything available in the $100 to $200 range? Or used sources?

    Thank you,

    Brian

I got a DV camcorder off eBay a few years ago for $105 shipped. The seller said it had only been used for some testing, and when I got it it was in great shape. Been using it ever since, keep an eye out for deals like that.

The Flip video camcorders work great. Here is another that works pretty good too...

As long as you are ONLY using these for web stuff they are pretty good. The reason is they save in a very compressed format...h264 is basically a compressor we use on phones and psp, etc. mpeg 4.

They do a good job for that but also realize zooms are not good when digital. Optical is much better and image stabilzing is really needed. Or make sure it has a tripod attachment so you can set it up and video while you run.

Since I like to edit in the best format possible I like Mini DV cams which saves as direct AVI...about the largest format you can get and then edit it down and convert. Many converters out there for free that do well. I use Studio software that I love...and made by Avid...on of the best editos out there.

There are MiniDV that also load direct to Youtube and has in-camera editing to compress and send thru the USB.

What you do not get with cheapo units is good glass lens that makes all the difference. You can't go wrong with Sony compared to the others.

We just bought a Canon FS200 Flash Digital Camcorder and so far, it's been great... paid $249 for it. No HD, but really good quality anyhow. I personally feel you can't go wrong with a Canon. Has a 37X Optical Zoom as well, which will be nice for getting some action boating shots...

I use a Canon as well but in HD. The colors are crisp and clear. If you are going to use it for web use no need to spend big money as a lot of the hosts loose it's quality.
