    Keep reading farther down:

"Obama was to meet with his top advisers on the Afghan war on Friday to consider a request by Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the U.S. commander in Afghanistan, to send as many as 40,000 more troops to Afghanistan as the U.S war there enters its ninth year.

Obama ordered 21,000 additional troops to Afghanistan earlier this year and has continued the use of unmanned drones for attacks on militants in Afghanistan and Pakistan, a strategy devised by the Bush administration. The attacks often kill or injure civilians living in the area.

In July talks in Moscow, Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev agreed that their negotiators would work out a new limit on delivery vehicles for nuclear warheads of between 500 and 1,100. They also agreed that warhead limits would be reduced from the current range of 1,700-2,200 to as low as 1,500. The United States now as about 2,200 such warheads, compared to about 2,800 for the Russians.

But there has been no word on whether either side has started to act on the reductions. "

So by increasing (signficantly) the presence of the OUR military in a foreign country, by continuing use of UAVs in attacks which HARM CIVILIANS, and by NOT reaching an agreement on nuclear arms, he gets a PEACE PRIZE!?!

    That's "change" for you!

And 1 million dollars for winning that honor. But they never talk about that. I heard that on the news some years ago. I never knew that.

      Can it get more scary??

        Sure it can...

The cutoff date for this prize was February... So he'd been in office, what, like 1.5 weeks???

        This was fixed...

        He's in "great" company, though...

Franklin Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Jimmy Carter, Al Gore...

I intend to do some great things and have talked about it... can I get one of those too???

As Orrin Hatch said this morning. He is happy that an American got the prize. Obama himself admitted that he thought he didn't deserve it. I'm not an Obama fan, but it does get a little tiring hearing overly critical banter about him. He is not the only one in office responsible for this country's woes.

I don't think any of that is the point... the point here is that NOTHING is being celebrated and rewarded here... It's Idol-whorship... demi-god-ism...

I'm all for awarding one's accomplishments... but rewarding a campaign speech??? Words and promises that are being broken left and right on a daily basis?

I think this is one of the better responses:

I would say regardless of the circumstances, congratulations to President Obama for winning the Nobel Prize. I know there will be some people who are saying “Was it based on good intentions and thoughts or is it going to be based on good results?” But I think the appropriate response is when anybody wins a Nobel Prize that is a very noteworthy development and designation and I think the appropriate response is to say “Congratulations.”
BTW - that was said by Tim Pawlenty (R), the Governor of Minnesota.

But I also like the DNC response to the criticism:

The Republican Party has thrown in its lot with the terrorists -- the Taliban and Hamas this morning -- in criticizing the President for receiving the Nobel Peace prize," wrote DNC Communications Director Brad Woodhouse. "Republicans cheered when America failed to land the Olympics and now they are criticizing the President of the United States for receiving the Nobel Peace prize -- an award he did not seek but that is nonetheless an honor in which every American can take great pride -- unless of course you are the Republican Party. The 2009 version of the Republican Party has no boundaries, has no shame and has proved that they will put politics above patriotism at every turn. It's no wonder only 20 percent of Americans admit to being Republicans anymore - it's an embarrassing label to claim."

But it is the point. Otherwise this thread would have never popped up. He is not the first to break promises nor will he be the last. We are not privey to the inner workings of our government, although we should be, so who knows why the promises have been broken. He faces so much opposition to virtually everything he attempts. Even when the guy makes a speach, people try to read too much into what he's saying. People of critical of him, what his wife wears, what his children eat, even about his dog. What does any of that have to do with making the lives of Americans any better?

Perhaps I'm not being clear... because you are still missing my point...

My point concerns the AWARD BEING GIVEN to him... NOT what he has or hasn't done, said, etc...

This award is based on NOTHING but words... no accomplishments, no actions... nothing... The award is being given based on an image... that's it...

WHAT exactly are people celebrating here...??

                    Whatever....

I couldn't agree more... the Republicans are a joke... I don't know where you got your 20%, but I think you may find that there are a good number of people considering themselves "conservatives" these days... likely registered as Independants...

I'm sorry, but just receiving the prize is no reason for admiration... Kind of like getting an honorary degree in advanced brain surgery, after only having held a BA in Psych...

One of those images is how the world views the United States. But as I said, even Obama agrees that he is not deserving of the award. The panel that awards the prize consists of 5 members. 3 of which are left leaning. Yet all 5 member unanimously agreed to award him the prize. Obviously they felt that he deserved it. As Socal Bill said, "Congratulations" are in order.

This doesnt surprise me. What a joke.

So a side note, I heard in the next stimulus package they have allotted the funds to build Obama his own pyramid in the midwest.

Not a joke, but a political neccessity. Just some of the people who claim to represent the party are of questionable character. I like some of the things that both parties put forth but at the same time, I find some of their agendas questionable.
