But in actuality, your download speed is only as fast as the server you accessing.

These comparisons are silly. America has a zillion miles more infrastructure to replace than most countries. Being totally electrified early may have helped bring us up as a nation quicker, but the downside is that upgrading to better distribution technology costs a lot more in the end.

All we need is FIOS to the desktop. Since I live in the boonies, I'll probably never see it. My buddies back in NJ are loving it, though.

I believe it also takes into account that many americans still use dialup as their means of connecting to the internet.

Verizon FIOS is what I have. They came through last summer and I have been very happy with the service.

Very true - I do notice a difference depending on the day of the week and time and the web site.

This is the site I use for testing but it tops out at 20M ...

You're never going to get the same results from the 2. I've used a number of these tests and the numbers range from 576kbps up 17mbps as speed is determined by so many variables including your computer's configuration.

I agree. Korea is a small country. Not only that, they have the political will to spend money FOR the people instead of bowing to big business and obscene profits like here.

I have FIOS and love it! Hope you can get it soon. But even with 20mps FIOS, we are still a lot slower than a lot of the world.

Fiber is the way to go, but the argument is, we was paying for the upgrades to the total backbone, but side projects took interest.

what were those side interests? Bridges to nowhere, etc? Too many special interests eating up too much of the pie to actually fund a project that benefits all. It's all about the money and the power, not the people.
