just got my UL-1 and ran it with SMC 2c9000 28c packs was running good but little bouncy, so I lowered the strut and instlal the L40x57/3 prop and my lipos was so hot the shrink wrap starting to melt. luckly they are ok..

I did notice with the new prop it was taking ALOT longer to plane out ..

any ideas?

Is your prop sharpened/balanced? How "low" is your strut?

the prop is right out of the box. Its Grimracer L40x57/3 and the strut is as low as I could get it..

Put the strut about 7/8" from the bottom of the strut to the hull. The prop needs to be sharpened/ balanced and preferrably thinned. an unbalanced prop can destroy your driveline and bearings. An unsharpened prop will have a hard time hooking up and will cavitate excessivley.

is the guide showing me how to put the strut 7/8 from the bottom ? this is my 1st Hydro. Guess I put the grimracer prop back in the package. I have no way of sharpening it.. I would have thought for $21 Aquacraft would have done that already.. Guess it back to the plastic one

there is a guy on this forum that goes by the name of egneg who does top notch sharpening/balancing. I'd pm him about your prop.

Sorry,,,but if you LiPos got that hot so the heatshrink melted,,,you have bigger issues.

How were your motor and controller temps??

I think I found the problem.. I had the strut to low.. It took a long time for the boat to plane and I think I was overworknig the motor..

let us know if your batteries still are getting hot, it's very odd for batteries of this size to get even very warm.. :confused2:

An extended plow with an unsharpened prop... Yep. That'll pull some current. No mystery there about why it heated up.

In the future if you have trouble powering on plane, consider having somebody launch it for you.

I'm glad you didn't have a Viking Funeral out there (fire!!).

See ya. -Mick
