Hello all. I have a SV that has all sock motor, ESC and one set of Venom NiMh batts. In an earlier post someone was stating that holding onto NiMh batts was a loosing battle. I need to order some new batts beccause I only have one set now and would like some recomendations on what to do about switching over. What do I need to do to the ESC, BEC and what size or type LiPo's do I need? I have a 977 charger, how do I charge them and how long does it take to charge? All the LiPo numbers and differences are confusing me. Thanks for any help with this one.

I run two of the orion 4800 platium lipos in my SV. It makes a huge differance!! A little pricey but worth it!!

I am running Venom 3600 7.2 packs right now. The Orion packs look great. However, I need two, is that correct? Plus on thier website it says do not use MRC chargers for some reason. I have a MRC Super Brain 977 that claims you can charge LiPo's. Am I mistaken? With these LiPo's do I need a different ESC or use a BEC? Help with the follow up questions is appreciated!

I use all venom lipo's, I have never had trouble and they hit their numbers constantly right on the money, full charge and min charge through esc. I have to say they are pricey but great power to weight and longer and longer runtimes. And as for packs I use the 11.1 2100 20c packs. 4 in my boat and they work for my helis too

I have 2 super brain 977 mrc chargers and have no problems. I charge my max amp lipos with no probs. Just make sure you read the directions good. I have 4 8000 mah 7.4v and 2 6000 mah 7.4v andthey are all fine.............

i downloaded the directions and its very vaige for the lipo part. i just dont know what to do for "timed charge" what do you put there? also what about discharge time and for cell count do you put 2 if its a 2s1p? thanks for the help!!

I posed a question to the pro at my LHS. He didn't have an answer immediately, so he called Aquacraft. He told me that without sticking their neck on the chopping block, my idea should be fine.
(note my signature at this time)
My question was...
On the stock SV27 ESC, could I add a LVC and run Lipos. One 7.2V and one 11.1V?

Hey would it be better to run a 5s lipo in my boat rated 4250 mah or run it with 2s and 3s 4250, which would give me more power?

yes you can run a low voltage cut off and run lipos.

are you asking about using a 7.4 volt and an 11.1volt battery at the same time?

sorry not understanding your question at this time:o

Yes. One side would have a 7.2V lipo. The other side would have an 11.1V lipo. Aquacraft, without sticking their neck on the chopping block, pretty much told my LHS that the SV27 ESC should handle it with a Low Voltage Cutoff. (to protect the Lipos from discharging too far)

you dont have to discharge lipos

no you dont have to discharge them.
but YOU do have to keep them from dropping below 3.0 volts per cell, hence the low voltage cut off, most racers like to keep them from going below 3.4 volts.

I have heard it is capable of handling up to 18v.

ok I have a 977 charger also and it works fine for charging lipos, to charge the lipos on that charger, scroll through until you see charging amps (you want to charge at the 1c rate ) so if you have a 4800 mah pack you want to charge at 4.8 amps, set that on your charger, next go to cell count, if your pack is 7.4 volts thats a 2 cell pack, set the charger at 2 cells, hit start, make sure the screen say lipos on it and your good to go. If it dont say lipos stop charging immediatly and consult your instruction manual. (you should do this first any way)

I ran my SuperVee on 5s and it cost me a motor. It was my fault for trying too large a prop. It ran good on a 440-3 and 442. Batteries, motor and ESC all stayed cool until I tried a M445 prop. Ran stupid fast for a short distance and quit. Motor was about 160 and smelt burnt. To run 5s you have to disable the BEC on the ESC and run a seperate receiver battery. Run 5s in the SuperVee at your own risk. Running 4s is not a problem. You should run a Low Voltage Cutoff with any Lipo in the SuperVee.

Thanks for the info.
I didn't inquire about the motor, just the ESC since I run the Ammo. It's still good info though. Thanks.

How do you like the Ammo? Did you get the 36-50-2300? I was looking at the Ammo 36-56-1800 and a Hydra 120 to see how that goes. According to the Speed Estimate by Use of Voltage & Constant "Kv" tool the SuperVee should in the mid 40s with a M445.

The ammo made a world of difference over the stock sv27 motor.

Anyone using thier MRC 977 to charge LiPo packs? If so what settings are you using?

I use my 977 all the time to charge lipos. what kind of lipos do you have?

I'm going to try some 2s LiPo's from Fine Design.

Jeepers

I charge at the 1c rating, 4000mah pack, charge at 4 amps, since its a 2s pack set your cell count to 2 cells, hit start the screen should say lipo on it, if it dont stop charging immediatly. read your instructions first though it tells you excatly how to do it.

WOW! I just hooked up my sv with an 8XL x447 prop and 22.2V Lipo's. I was laughing so hard I couldnt drive. When I nailed the throttle it would jump about
6" out of the water and the hull never hit water again. I was just a rocket. If the wife will let me ill tape and post sat. afternoon. I was VERY nervous that I would toast the controller or motor but due to excellent water cooling on the CC 80 and ose motor jacket it was just warm.

8XL, x447, 22.2V = smoke or a top speed of 68mph on a mono. Check your temps often. How long did you run it?

Mich. Maniac
08-04-2007, 09:49 AM
I ran about 7 minutes, I only checked temps after the run so I didnt have to re-tape hatch. Esc was around 110, batterys were barely warm and motor was around 120.
